Hi everyone,
Brodie went in for X-rays on Friday as she's been having problems with her legs (which we still haven't got to the bottom of). When the vet was looking at the results she noticed a pocket of air where there shouldn't have been and investigated. It turns out Brodie has a tumour in her anal gland
. It's been a total shock. I should find out if the tumour is malignant Wednesday/Thursday.
The tumour is still small (only a couple of mm in size) and if it is malignant it *should* be removed no problem, but sadly as the cancer is so aggressive it will almost definitely come back in (at best) a year or so. There are no guarantees though, my aunt's girl only lasted seven weeks with the same illness. It's not a fatty lump as there were cells present when the vet aspirated it.
The good news is her blood tests are normal, including her calcium levels - raised calcium levels are a big sign of cancer so I am hanging onto that thought
. Just can't believe this has happened, she only turns seven next month. Feel so relieved that it was found though, as it doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened if it is malignant and went undetected.
