Poor Vegas

His mouth has flared up very badly again :(  We are now only getting approx a week between attacks and each one seems to be worse than the last. He has not long finished a 3 week course of antibiotics and I have been religiously cleaning it with hibiscrub and Savlon as recommended by the vet. Last night there was a very slight hint of a smell but looked absolutely fine and today it is all red and almost ulcerated and oozing green pus :(  The vet did make mutterings last time that ultimately he will probably end up needing an op as I can't keep him on antibiotics for ever. I am going to ask whether taking a swab of the gunk is an option - I just really don't want him to have another op so soon after the last one :(

Aww poor Vegas, it is a really horrible thing, infected lip folds.
Cleo had surgery on her lip folds on both sides. Hers was a recurring problem.
The surgey wasnt very invasive, and she was eating properly that night. It seemed to heal in less than a week. Never any problems since. It is odd though, as Livvy isnt troubled by this problem. You'd think with them being litter mates, that theyd be prone to the same kind of thing.
I think it would be better to get it done once and for all, rather than an almost constant supply of antibiotics and treatments, which is what was happening with Cleo. But thats just my opinion, and I'd hate to upset anyone.
Good luck whatever course of action you follow.
Love from Karen and Livvy

We are giving him one last lot of treatment with a different antibiotic and if it recurs again so soon after the tablets are finished, he has to go for the op.  I'm not holding out much hope so he has been provisionally booked in at the end of next month for the same day that Disney is getting his leg x-rayed - that way they can keep each other company ;)

I know you wouldn't think it but I do look after my boys       It just seems to be one thing after another at the minute

I really feel for you Gill. I feel the same, we;re their with Jasper at the mo, so sonn after Buddy and Whisper. I feel like we live at the vets at present.

I hope they do get Vegas sorted out. If tt does come to the op - it can be very very successful and you know he would be in the best of hands - yours ;)
