Just read this post too.  I am so sorry and know exactly how you feel as I went through the same thing in May of this year.

What you did was for the best, although I know it is the hardest decision to make.  I know you are in great pain and it I know with me the grief would wash over me when I was least expecting it.  Eventually this became less and less and a few weeks ago was the first time I was able to look at a picture of my beloved boy and I put his collar away under my bed.  When I read your post the feelings came flooding back and I really feel for you at this awful time.

Nothing but time can help your pain but I am thinking of you.

thx all - I am in tears all the time and even though I have 7 other dogs, the house seems empty - he had a quiet dignified presence. The sad thing is, a bit like children, its hard to remember them when they were young and running around. I know its probably just a temporary thing but I really feel that my current dogs will be my last. Although Ive lost dogs in the past, he was my special once in a lifetime dog. was a youngster when I had my son who will be 14 in Jan, been with my when my husband died and has been such a huge part of my life for so long - its the end of an era. However, Ill need to pick myself up out of this depression and put on 'a face' for christmas I suppose

Thx for all your good wishes - means a lot to me

Kirsten, I know exactly how you feel :(  Although I had 2 other dogs at the time I lost Brook (my once-in-a-lifetime dog  ), it didn't really make me feel any better - all it meant was that I had to drag myself out of bed to walk them! I love all my dogs dearly but I would gladly trade any one of them in to have my Brook back. It's a horrible thing to say but its true - his death absolutely devastated me. I was in tears all the time, wouldn't eat and came very close to being put on the happy pills.  Its been almost 18 months now and I still shed tears for him.

I do hope you feel better soon but you should take as long as you need to grieve for Jaffa. He was obviously a wonderful companion and I'm sure he will be keeping an eye on you ;)
