Can't get online on my user

It is really odd.  I can access my e-mails on my own user on the computer, but to get on line,  I have to log off my user and log on as either my son or my husband and then I have no problem.
I rang the free help line for my computer and they didnt help.  I then dialled the £1 per minute help line for my broadband, and spent 11 minutes on the phone.   They couldn't help!
It was my son who suggested trying on a different user, but I don't understand how it can happen.
Any ideas would be gratefully received!

We have three users on our PC: me, OH and kids.
Sometimes the kids can't log on to the internet on their user. We have to log on on our user, then log off again. And then the kids user works too.
No reason why this should work or even make a difference, but it does.  :-\

try control panel - network connections - network troubleshooter (left hand side 'see also')
