Windows Error Message

HELP.  I can't manage without my PC & COL 

I suspect with this error message I may need to re-install everything, has anybody got any ideas?
I can't open anything & get the following message when I try:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.  You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

try logging into the computer as an Administrator, or simply reboot and try it again, either the file is missing or you dont have sufficient admin rights to open it.

It appears to be a Windows update error. 
I rebooted & restored to previous settings & great everything was fine.
I then turned off PC & it asked if I wanted to install updates then - I said No.
But when I started up this morning it automatically installed Windows update & said Windows update has installed new security software to protect PC & required re-starting.  Then we went back to having the same problem again     

I shall be taking off the automatic updates
