Suggestion
« on: October 04, 2008, 01:30:49 PM »
Jane has asked me to bring issues arisen from Finn's thread in the rescue sectrion to this one, though I want to stress this is not a problem or criticism, but is meant to be a helpful ,suggestion/idea for improvement to the rescue section, please mods do take these suggestions with reference to the spirit in which they are therefore meant - ie, positive ;). :D

Many of us thoroughly enjoy the rescue section, but dog rescue is a difficult and highly emotive issue in general in which many would like additional support, including me. From a constructive and solution focused point of view, might it be an idea to have a mini forum, attached to COL, perhaps in the rescue section or another, that discusses particular rescue cocker homing issues, such as, the needs of rescue working cockers vs rescue show cockers or rescue breeding bitches or rescue ex studs and the differences, cocker oldies, adolescents etc?
It would also help provide a space to talk for those those who already have cocker rescues, or those desperate to offer a home, but who are worried about making a mistake.  Also, it may give a forum for the emotional issue of cocker rescue rehoming , where people need to talk/share/seek info.

Failing this, perhaps a series of links as a sticky that may provide similar?

What do others think?

I think it highly unlikely that we will create another mini forum or another board just to discuss general rescue issues & to ask for advice on rescue dogs - the other boards are already well used for that. We could well consider FAQ/Advice posts which could be pinned as stickies to the Rescue board (as has happened with the other boards) but as ever, it's a matter of finding the time to do this. However members are always welcome to submit FAQ style articles but please send them for Mod approval first. The ruling about contacting the rescues concerned to discuss individual dogs will however remain in place and will not be changed - this is in the interests of the dogs concerned.

Dog rescue pages is all about this sort of thing and would be better suited as taking on a rescue cocker is no different than taking on any other rescue dog.

The rescue section on col is really only for rehoming particular cockers that are in rescues and each rescue will have their own particular requirements, which may not always suit people but those rescues put them in place for one reason or another and its often best to discuss with the rescue concerned.

People find their own way of discussing about having taken on a rescue cocker already.
