Starry Ebony Eyes, Dusty

Our Dusty was a rescued cocker, she had some major issues when we first got her. She never really hit it off with other dogs, and only a select few feople.

She was the most affectionate little dog ever.

She used to 'perimiter check' our garden every morning and evening, and would check that Parsley and Thumper, the bunnies were safely tucked up for the night.

She always had some sort of skin issue going on, and we think that maybe thats one of the reasons she ended up as a rescue case.

She was a hardy little soul and took whatever was thrown at her and always bounced back right till the end.

We found a little lump one day, but just kept a watchful eye on it because she was covered in lumps and bumps. Within 2 days it had trebeled in size, and she was kept in at the vet for immediate surgery. She had 2 breasts removed and we hoped for the best. When the biopsy results came back, the cancer was already in her lymph glands, so we knew it was just a waiting game. She must have had cancer for some time. 2 weeks or 2 months left we were told. She had always seemed a well little cocker, despite her skin, and had never really shown any signs of being unwell. The guilt we felt for not knowing that she wasn't as well as we thought was unbearable.

We had her for around another 6 weeks before it all got too much for us all.

That was 5 years ago, and not a day goes by where I don't think about her. She was my best girl, and wasn't even 10 when we had to make that heartbreaking decision.
