Search and Rescue Dogs
« on: October 27, 2009, 07:32:00 PM »
Hi there

Mods not sure if this is in the right section, please move if not.

Am really chuffed with Harley, as on Sunday he made it through the assessment to train as a Search and Rescue dog.

We had to go to East Sussex for the assessment, and out of 9 dogs, only 4 passed.

As from a week on Sunday, Harley is on probation, and we have to do 4 training sessions in 8 weeks, and then he is assessed again, to see if he makes a Grade 1 dog.

Wow! Well done Harley, what a fab thing to do :shades:  I hope he enjoys his training and I'm sure he'll fly through his second assessment!

Wow, Congratulations to Harley and you.  :clapping:

How does that work?  Would you work with Harley on search and rescue missions?

What is involved in being a Search and Rescue dog?

It when the Police get a report of a missing person, they call on the dog handlers to go to a meeting point, and the Police co-ordinate the search, and will give the dog handler a specific area to cover.

The dogs are trained to pick up Human scent, and then bark at the owner once they have found it, and to take the handler to the person.

Well Done Harley!  Hope you both enjoy the training and work.  It's something I would love to do but unfortunately my lifestyle isn't flexible enough.  Good Luck for your next assessment...I'm sure you will pass with flying colours  :D

We are going to do the training in Kent, Essex and Sussex.  They will alternate which venue each training session.
