FN gene test
« on: September 26, 2011, 12:17:19 PM »
Does anyone know of a group test for FN (assume they do this as per Optigen) local - ish to me i.e North of West Sussex?
Have just got the results for my young bitch (she's tested Clear/Normal - hurray!)and didn't realise they do a joint test and I missed the change to required testing for this for Accredited Breeders.  Many thanks

You can actaully do it by post. I did both mine by post. You will need a vet to do the cheek swab. The testing kits are available from www.antagene.com

Why does the vet have to
do the cheek swap?

I've just read a discussion on another forum about this and apparently you can do it yourself and don't need to go to a vet to have it done.

The issue is just that if you do the swab and fill in the form the swab could come from any dog, if the vet does it he automatically verifies that the swab comes from the dog the paperwork is for.

The vet has to confirm the identity of the dog so will also check the microchip number.

Ah I see :shades:
Thanks Lynne and Bee, I thought
the implication was that mere
mortals would not be able to
take a cheek swab as it's
way too difficult! ;)

Thanks!  Test kit it is then.  Probably best to get my vet to do it - it would be annoying to have to another test as "mere mortal" had done it and it couldn't be verified.  That is the idea of having all dogs identified after all.
