Look what I've got!!!
« on: March 03, 2007, 10:24:24 AM »
I have not stopped smiling since last night when I got home and discovered that OH had made me these:

I saw a thread on another forum that gave me the idea.......so we ordered the bits which arrived while I was at work, and by the time I got home, OH had done all the measuring and cutting  :D

I got two hurdles and a small A frame made for me by my wife and her dad for my birthday two years ago.
It was all done on the quiet.
I came down the stairs and looked out into the garden and my wife said my face lit up.
She said it was like seeing a child on christmas morning and sad as it sounds it's exactly how it felt.
Enjoy!

Can I borrow your hubby

We did our 3rd class today and I'd love to be able to practice at home!  I'm going to use the stairs as the A Frame to get him to touch a mat on the last step.  He targets a mat beautifully .......................... until we put it at the end of the frame  ::)  He is just so excited that he doesn't even acknowledge it!  :shades:

aww that's great !

btw - to get a dog to stop at the bottom of the A frame - use a treat pot.  Once they are focused on a little treat pot, you can just put it at the end of each contact point, with one treat on top of the closed pot.  It works very well !!! - or if you are a clicker fan - you just have to click and treat each contact point - Hattie never misses a contact thanks to clicker training her contact points !

I do clicker train but he still misses the point   I think I'll try planting a treat on the mat - he is ruled by his stomach so this should work - thanks!

Maybe this was too new and he was a bit wound up?  He doesn't do waiting very well and when he gets the chance to move he does it with gusto  :005:

You need to "backchain" - literally place him on the contact point - click and treat..... then put him just before the contact point, click and treat as he gets to it, then 2 feet back from it.... you'll need a few minutes to clicker train contact points, but once it's done it should be very easy from then on !

Bella's quite good at her contact points unless she's in a particularly excitable mood and then she likes to jump off from as high as possible  ::).

We went to our class on Sunday, got there (it's outdoors) and it was that sideways torrential rain. There were only 4 of us so we battled on through the rain with the field turning into a quagmire and us all doing v-e-r-y slow rounds. I stopped to let Bella gingerly go over the seesaw, then we just had the wall jump left, but as I started trying to run again, my feet were just running on the spot in all the slidey mud and the next thing I knew I was face down in the mud. Bella of course thought it was hilarious and just waggled her bum all around me, you could almost hear her going "ha ha look at my silly mum!". Anyway I scrambled back to my feet and sent her over the final jump.  :D

We went home absolutely sopping wet (all other classes for the day cancelled) so I strapped Bella into the passenger seat on a bit of vetbed and directed the car heater her way so she got gently blow-dried on the drive home.  :luv:

They are great  ;)

Hope you have lots of fun with them  ;)

I was reading a book the other day about cockers and training and it had a pic in it of a cocker on a tiny tots slide, I still have one in the garage and OH said he was going to take it to the tip yesterday so I said no way I'm going to use it with Fern, his face was a picture  :-\ I think he thinks I've lost the plot  :005:
