I'm sure that this has come up before but I couldn't find any threads...

Which is more effective micro-chipping or tattooing? I read something recently that said that tattooing was a more effective deterent for thieves. however, I think that a tattoo might fade with time, and be more distressing when done.

For Cockers chipping is generally considered best as their ears are too hairy :D
