Puppy injections and isolation . . Is this over reaction ?
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:44:37 AM »
We have relative that have recently bought a puppy who we were looking forward to meeting. We were going to visit minus our own dogs obviously but have now been informed that to "qualify" we need to wear clothes that have not been contaminated by our dogs ( so presumably nude!) as our clothes could carry disease!!!. . . IS IT ME.?. . I've had five dogs and never heard THAT OTHER THAN PARVOVIRUS  out breaks. . .

Best time your visit for the summertime, they are being a tad over cautious me thinks  :shades:

Might not be their fault, our breeder said much the same thing, sometimes it's hard to filter out all the well meaning advice when you are desperate to do the best you can for the helpless puppy that's just joined your family.

Awww, over-protective new parents.  I presume your dogs have been vaccinated, so can't see a problem with you turning up fully clothed.  I wonder if you would have to visit their human baby naked too?

I'd turn up in the buff  :005: or go to the other extreme and wear a Racal suit  :lol2:

No, I think they're going a little bit over the top but really can't fault them for trying to stick to advice that they've been given  ;), they've only got the best intentions for their puppy at heart so I'd go easy on them.

Definately being over cautious  :005: when you get there you could always take off your shoes and wash your hands, don't think there's really much else you good do.
Tell them you've put on freshly washed clothes and haven't been near your dogs and that should keep them happy  :D

Hi bob
I'm tempted. . . And I suppose I know they're trying to do the best for the pup. . . I just wonder that all the stress it will cause in the household there will be a homeless pup soon if they don't lighten up ?
They are first time owners but have three children?!!!!. . .

Bless em!! I can remember being really worried about everything when I had my first dog too I suppose it is only natural to want to do the best for them. Hopefully you can reassure them that things will be ok  :D

I live in a parvo area and to be honest no one does this at all - its about being sensible and how on earth is the pup meant to be properly socialised

Do you have to step in a disinfectant bath in case you pick up any germs on the way over there
