OMG was what I thought when I read the subject title.

Scuse my ignorance but I assumed that any issues a dog has is usually down to how it's been raised/treated - 'it's not the breed, it's the owner'.  Like others have said, surely this is a case of a pup pushing the boundaries and being allowed to get away with it thereby reinforcing the bad behaviour?

Poor little mite, fingers crossed someone with doggie sense snaps him up and turns him into a happy chappie.

I do think breeding can play a part. My Rescue Cocker x GSD was born in Rescue and her mum was really scatty and there was only a few of us that were able to get near her and her pups. Nim has always been a little scatty as well. Especially around strangers and kids, but she has improved with the right socialisation, training etc and she has definitely matured a lot. I think she will always have it in her a bit, but as you say bringing her up properly stopped it from getting out of hand. I'm sure this young lad will be fantastic in the right home and as people have said If there anything like where I used to work they don't re-home over Christmas time. Especially puppies. So there's hope for a better 2010 for this little chap.  :luv:

5scompany!  oooops, yes, breeding can play a part, I typed whilst stunned as I was thinking 'puppy, playing, someone takes his toy/food from him, he growls, they go 'oooo!' and give it back, he thinks Ah-ha if I growl, they give it back, simples'  ph34r

Oh yes I totally agree. That is very likely what's happened to this poor chap, bless him. I just think breeding can also play a part sometimes. Even with my dog who really had bad breeding as much as I love her we were able to stop it getting out of control by bringing her up the right way and her mum who really had problems poor girl found a loving home as well and is a much better dog for it.  ;) I really hope this lad gets his perfect forever home very soon. He really does look like such a sweet heart.  :luv:

Well I know what one problem is - I have tried to call to see if Jack is still available but the only response is an answering machine that doesn't take messages. There is no email address. So, the only alternatives are either visit the centre on the off chance he is still there and they will think you a suitable adopter (I live in the Midlands, so not really feasible) or send a letter by snail mail. I will do th latter, but don't hold out much chance or any response  :-\

Keep trying to ring them  ;)  Just a guess, but i think sometimes the phone's aren't always 'manned' because they are busy looking after the animals.  :luv:

Yes. That was definitely true where I worked.  ;) We did have an answer phone though.  Maybe they forgot to turn it on or just popped out for a min. Please keep calling. Someone has to be there eventually or do they have an email address?

No email address, and the answering machine just says that they don't take messages! Will keep trying tomorrow.

Just noted that they are closed on mondays, so if you were trying yesterday that will be why, it also says that they don't have anyone to man the phones :-\. The site now says he is reserved pending a homecheck, hope its you and you eventually got through , if not, I am sure another rescue will capture your heart soon :luv:

I called to ask about him too  :luv:  but no answer for me either. We don't live too far away (maybe an hour-ish) so I may head up there this weekend, weather depending. I haven't rescued before so i'm a bit scared that we'll get there, i'll fall in love a bit more, and then be told I can't have him  :'(

I think it's lovely that you want to help this lad but you have two 11 month-ish?? Male cockers at the moment as it is and you could end up with some serious personality clashes. A new young male in the house could even upset the relationship your current dogs have  :-\ My cocker was neutered 6 months ago and it's only just recently it's started to effect him - he's become more dominant and feisty. I really wouldn't think that at this point your home would be a safe bet for this little lad. When your current dogs are older and have settled from their castration it would probably be more of an option you could consider though. The rescue may think differently, but if it was me I'd never bring another young male into a home with 2 boys the age you have - particularly a dog that's already had the trauma of going through a rescue at such a young age.

I don't want to offend you and hope you understand why I've mentioned this  :-*
