FN Testing
« on: November 04, 2006, 02:05:45 AM »
Hi,
just wondering if this test is readily available in England yet.

I have just had my bitch swabbed for PRA and FN down here in Australia, but was told the test for FN won't be ready for a few weeks as there was some problem with a control case inTexas????

I was wondering if perhaps Jane S might have an idea of what is going on..

Cheers

No we haven't got the test yet in Europe. I had heard you in Australia could have the tests done but the samples are not being processed yet. I didn't think any company had actually been given the legal go ahead to offer the test yet - that was what was said by the Americans when a French lab tried to advertise the test a few weeks back. Hopefully the licencing side of things will be sorted out soon - it's obviously taking longer than was first envisaged.

Thanks Jane. That sounds about right. It is being offered, but we have been told there will be a wait before the swabs are processed.
Will let you know when things start happening then.

Thanks for that.  Does it mean you can't tell from the pedigree if this is likely to happen?

no the only way you may have an idea is if the breeders used the same match that had produced a case of FN

It really is a very rare condition. Ask your breeder about it if you are worried. What I believe ( and have learnt) now is that a good breeder will tell you all about the condition (if you ask) and not be totally dismissive of it.
