I think you have to ask yourself why you want her to have a litter in the first place  ;)  :)

When you say you're thinking of letting her have a litter, do you mean just the one litter? If so, why do you want a litter?

The answer is : DON'T!!  :o

Unless you plan to become a "professional" breeder then DON'T.

The worry, scares, expense, family traumas, anxiety are not worth it.

A bitch does not NEED a litter to be fulfilled in life. Her health will be better for being spayed. Just don't let her get fat.

Pregnancy, any pregnancy, is potentially dangerous.
I could tell you our tale. It's not a horror story although it's not over yet. . .

Really, I wish I'd listened to the advice I was given. Breeding is for the dedicated. Loving your bitch is just not enough.

SORRY.

Do not make the mistake of thinking breeding is easy - read the FAQ's as previously suggeted. Jane is not exagerating and any breeder will agree with what she has written.

If you are serious about breeding and choose to go ahead I would strongly advise that you go under the wing of an experianced breeder. Find one who will be your mentor throughout. Believe me you need some one relable you can call at ANY TIME if you have a problem. Believe me - most problems crop up at one in the morning! Your mentor will tell you when and if you should considder breeding from your bitch and should advise on the health checks you need done before commencing.

My father was my mentor - he had 40yrs of breeding under his belt.

If you just want to keep one because you love dogs...go and buy another puppy, it's less stressful and much cheaper  ;)
