Hi guys,

I can't remember which way round it is  ::)

Is it that blue roan pups have solid black pads when they're born...

and black & white pups have pink pads???

Or does the colour of the pads change when the pups get older??

So confusing!!!  :lol2:

Thanks for any help.  :-*

Blues have solid black pads... and black and whites may have some pink and some black, so yes you got it the right way around!

Have you got something to tell us :shades: :005:

Nope!  ;) (other than that Bella is now a proud grandmother)

Thanks for confirming the way you identify the colours  :D

Lighter roans may be born with pink on the pads which fills in as they get older so it's not always easy to tell at birth whether a pup is an "and white" or a "roan". Just thought I'd mention that to confuse matters :D

It is very confusing. I remember ringing my friend when we had Angel's litter and bragging that we had two black and whites, she pointed out that we had two light blues not black and whites! Good luck with everything  :luv:

Right well after having an experienced eye cast over a photo of the pups it appears that at this stage the odds are that there is a blue roan girl and a light blue roan boy  :luv:

Thanks for everyones help on this  :-*

Hello, can I just ask if pup is born with black toe pads but a pink middle pad ( on all four feet) when will I know if it's black and white or light blue roan? Also he has a specled muzzle like Mum and she is either black and white ticked or VERY light blue roan still can't tell the difference - pls enlighten me someone :D

Very likely he's a black and white if his middle pads are all pink! Since the roans darken up with age you won't be able to tell about roaning till about 8-10 weeks old.

I have a litter of 4 week old pups, who are DEFINITELY blue roan, but the middle of their pads are still pink....their faces are roan and their bodies, so I have no doubt on that  :005:.

Sharon do you think your pups will be Light or Dark blue?

I am in no rush to register him but was just wondering as it's been a long time since I have had a black and white puppy and I can't remember what her feet looked like  :005:

Light roans will have pink on pads for quite a bit longer than dark roans - when we have dark blues, their pads are often totally black from birth.

Well it looks like our two pups in question are both blue roans because their pads are becoming darker and they're getting flecks of colour on their predominantly white coats now :D

Thank you for all of the advice on roan colouring  :D
