This week we’ve been sent away to teach our dogs to bark on command….
Well I’ve tried all week…and failed miserably. Just don’t want to get their tomorrow & for it too look like I haven’t put the effort in or couldn’t be bothered etc…..when it couldn’t be any further from the truth!!
Anyone got any tips :D ??

what i did to teach Elmo was got him a bit excited by showing him a squeaky toy and running up and down the hallway with it til he barked at me then i clicked and treated. I kept doing it ti he was confident barking then i added the command "speak" just before he barked. Its easy to tell when they are about to bark as they take a deap breath. Then i only clicked when i had asked him to "speak" and barks in between got ignored.
Does your dog bark at all?

Both my two 'speak' on command.
I just made treats for them held the treat so they cold see it and said 'speak' - as soon as they barked they got a treat!
Not much help sorry, but thats how i did it!!

I did pretty much the same as Lucy. But when that didnt work, I put Betty in a sit, and kept her attention with a treat, then I said the word 'speak' and barked myself ph34r :005:
I know I sound krackers, but after a few barks, Betty started woofing back.
Just kept saying 'speak' while she was doing it along with lots of fuss and treating :D

This is how I taught all mine.
Once you have barking on cue you can then work on doing the same for quiet ;).

I taught my Weim to bark on command last week pretty much in the same way as Danni n Betty.. I stood in front of her and said 'Bark' then barked myself (actually so did my son ph34r ) and she got the hang of it and learn't 'Stop' too very quickly.. I didn't actually need to use any treats just lots of praise but think it depends on individual dogs..
Good luck!

We taught Orrin by us Uffing at her, so now she does a cute little Uff when we ask her too. She also does bark when asked to speak.
Clever little things :)

We're still no further forward ::) ...but I’ll keep persevering.
Does your dog bark at all?
I think this has been the stumbling block, as he's not really very vocal :-\
