Tripe
« on: July 24, 2014, 09:57:35 AM »
Is tripe meat or can it be counted as offal in a raw feed ?
I can get chicken & tripe frozen mince at my pet shop, because liver etc.  gives Kez the runs I was wondering if this will do.

It's meat, tripe is easy to digest so I don't expect you to have any problems. It's worth remembering that tripe has a tendency to put weight on dogs.

Have you tried flash frying the offal Julie? William and Louis took a while to get used to liver, even longer to get used to kidney, but I persevered with tiny amounts cut into tiny pieces and they eventually started eating it instead of picking it out and spitting it out on the floor :005:

If liver causes a runny bottom you could try mixing it in with some minced tripe or other meat so not giving too much in one go.  ;) That is what I tend to do because too much liver does sometimes give Coco the squits too  >:(

Thanks again, when I can get it  :shades: chopped ox heart seems to be o.k.   I shop at Morrison & they only have it occasionally (in our branch)

Heart is not offal either - it is a muscle, so counts as normal meat.

For offal you need kidney or liver  ;)

Check out the pinned post about raw feeding on Feeding.

Usually 10% of the diet on offal which 5% should be liver. Though some dogs don't tolerate as much as that and need less.
