Following all the posts about insurance going up who can recommend an insurance policy? We were using Churchill but I will not use them again for various reasons surrounding Maisy. Does anyone use Pet Plan?

Yes, I'm with PetPlan although I've yet to make a claim with them!
A chum of mine has claimed twice for her two horses with PP and they paid out over ten grand without batting an eyelid :o All the vet's I've spoken to recommend them above all others, but who knows until you actually make a claim!!

Do Healthy pets cover treatments for life? Also do you have an excess?

Just looked at my policy docs, this is how it reads -
'Cover is continuous for each seperate incident up to the limit of the policy, subject to cover still being in force and relevant premiums having been paid. Treatment in respect of any condition can continue until the original vet fees limit has been reached.' (my vet fee limit is £5000 for each dog)
'Continuous treatment is subject to the poilcy remaining in force, being continuously renewed at each anniversary and premiums paid up to date.'
I have to pay £50 excess for each incident (illness or injury), £100 excess for Dog Third Party Cover (£1m) and £100 excess for Accidental Damage
Am i receiving a good deal?

ETA - I pay £16.11 a month for GOLD cover. Premium for both dogs!

We have Sam insured with More Than. It seemed to be the best cover when we compared them all. We pay £9.34 a month for their top cover.

I've just change from Tesco to Healthy Pets. Our premiums were nearly twice as much and they only covered conditions for 12 months. Have gone with the gold cover as well.
Fingers crossed it won't be needed.

I think the best way of shopping for insurance is to decide what cover you want before you start looking, and then find a policy to suit you ;) Premiums will change from year to year no matter which policy you take out, and even if you have not made a claim, if you decide to change policies after a year or two, it is likely that you will be subject to exclusions on any new policy :-\
IMO, the cover offered is a more important a consideration that initial price........and this does vary hugely from policy to policy ph34r For example, some policies exclude pre-op blood tests , some will not cover any veterinary treatment if your dog is not vaccinated, others will exclude behavioural referrals :-\ Some offer more extras than others, too, and if you have a lot of dogs, multi-policy discounts are also available ;)

We have epl (or elp) insurance at £12 a month for the first dog Gold Cover, Jake (Border collie) I got 10% reduction as second dog I got if on line.

Agree with Rachel, my main reason for switching was to move to a policy that provided life time cover. Ours are young enough to have no existing conditions/exclusions. I would rather pay more and know that if they get something it will be covered for longer than 12 months.

M&S... they have gone up in price, but we have had so many claims last year and this year already and they have always paid without problems! So we are sticking with them!

I have 3 with M&S and I have just insured 3 with Healthy Pets. With having insurance for 6 dogs, I just couldn't afford to pay out the premiums that M&S are now expecting. When the remaining 3 M&S policies run out, they too will be going with Healthy Pets

I think I ought to look at the healthy pets policy..... I can't afford to have all the dogs on M&S now it has gone up so much, mind you I don't suppose anyone would insure Molly now she is 11, although she is fighting fit!

Just did a quote on HP to see if they would insure an 11 year old and they will!

I use Petplan & have to say they have been superb. Have claimed three times now and each time they have paid out within less than 2 weeks.
I pay around £19 per month

I'm with Healthy Pets and have had brilliant service! I pay very little for their gold policy (about £5.60 p/m for Ben or £13 for Ben + two older cats)
I have claimed more than I've paid - and that's without the latest incident!
They cover for life - not just for the insurance year. It is limited on my policy to £6,000 per incident/illness but it doesn't get disqualified the next year ;)
I do have to pay the vet upfront (thank doG for credit cards) but that is down to my vet not Healthy Pets ;)

Healthy pets quoted more for my 2 on the gold policy (with excess) than my M&S renewals were (without an excess)

i'm with Tesco for my staff X, but after reading the threads about this, I may look to change, it is due for renewal at the end of august, may go with healthy pets, seem good price and cover for life not just 12 months, (not had to claim so far, touch wood, so hopefully won't have to in the future, but best to be safe than sorry.)

I just wanted to say that I have found all of your responses really useful. I'll be bringing home my pup Pippin next week and have really valued all of the posts and replies. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute a bit more over the coming weeks once I have more experiences to share. I guess what I am trying to say that although I haven't written may posts I am avidly reading all of them and it's very addictive!!
