Title: London Cocker Society Champ Show
Post by: Eljay on October 15, 2003, 11:10:47 PM
Hi all,
Just thought I'd ask if anyone is going to the London Cocker Champ show at Slough in December? I haven't done a champ show yet but I'm going to give this one a try. It would be great to meet up with some of you.

Lou and Alfie.

I was going to do it, but have decided to give champ shows a miss for a while as i am wasting my money, made the decision just to do open shows for the mean time and get my face seen more, and the breeder is going to introduce me to people when i walk round with her, sad i have to do this as i do enjoy champ shows but when you pay your money like everyone else and are then dismissed because you are one of the people that is not known  ::), its not doing Buffy any good and its not doing me any good, but have a good time and enjoy yourself :D

Misty's breeder has tried to entice me into entering her, but we are SO not ready for anything like that yet, or possibly ever. ;D I hope to pop along though, so look forward to meeting up with some of you. Shame they can't find a venue that is actually in London to stage the London Cocker Show............Slough ! ::)

I would like to take Misty to meet up with her breeder again, is this going to be possible in any way ? Would I have to enter her as I'm not too keen on leaving her in the car really .

No doubt I'll pop along as usual ;D

Couldn't stay long at Yate at the weekend and Alice (my youngest daughter) wasn't happy about being dragged away early ::) ;)  She just loves watching all the classes and usually gets the chance to see a couple of Lotties brothers 8)

Colin may be able to enter Misty "Not For Competition" like Gilly & Gill did at SKC - this means you can bring her into the show but you won't have to show her :) If you want a schedule & entry form, email Doug Telford, the Secretary (dougtelford@hotmail.com or give him a ring on 01268 751342.

Edited to say just looked at the schedule & there's no mention of "Not For Competition", so best to ask first.

I will look out for you all when we get there. You're right Colin , it's a long way to go, so I will have to set out early. Alfie's breeder is the one who has persuaded me to try it, and Alfie has been doing ok at the open shows and it's a nice doggy day out. We are off tomorrow to Braintree, so we'll see how that goes.

Hi

I have entered London Cocker and im a bit nervous I have got 4 champ shows coming up, Coventry, Rotherham, London and Ladies Kennel Association but i think the best thing to do is just go for it, even if I don't win anything it will still be a lovely day out watching cockers all day!!!!  I have done 3 champ shows this year and I didn't get anything but Toby enjoyed it and my friends did well with there cockers and it was lovely to see some of the tops dogs I think you just have to keep trying it took friends of ours two years to qualify for crufts.

It should be a good day.

Just remember people are looking at Your dog not You ;)
I.M me Your name or dog`s name and I will say hello at Coventry. I will be handing out catalogues :)

I am just so jealous on everybody going there  ;D  I have been at this show a few times, first time it was in Watford, and it was easy with a train from central London.
It is a long taxidrive from Queensway to Slough, but after all we are tourist ;D
Last time I went there, the taxidriver that drove us back to Queensway from the show, drove in 3!!!! hour before he found our hotel, we had been visiting a bar/pub in Slough, so we was not much of help ;)
But we had a GREAT DAY + Jane's Katie won the CC, so I guess they had a great day too !!

I hear that Tracey Morgan, the animal photographer, is likely to be at London Cocker. I've seen some of her Cocker photos and they look really good. Anyone any idea how much she charges ? Is she really expensive ?

Yes Tracy Morgan does excellent head studies :) I can't remember how much she charges as I've chucked out our invoices, but its not hugely expensive for a professional photographer

I think the show is due to start at about 9.30, is this right ? Will the puppies be up first ? I don't want to miss them (I'm looking forward to seeing Misty's brothers in the ring :) ), but it's going to be a bit of a struggle for me getting there that early.

What time are the other non-showers aiming to arrive ?

I would like to get there fairly early so depends if I can drag myself out of bed.  I'm aiming for 9.30 but have a habit of never getting anywhere on time

I'm still thinking about coming, if I do I think a 9.30 start is a bit optimistic for me - it IS a Sunday after all  So I would say it's much more likely I'll be aiming to arrive anytime after 10.30...

Judging commences in both rings at 9.30am.
The Dog classes start with Any Other Colour (ie. other than Solid Colours) and the Bitches start with Any Solid colour - Inc Solid/Tan
This is so that exhibitors are less likely to get caught up in two rings at once.
The Minor Puppy (age 6-9 months) classes are not until later (possibly after lunch) so it might be worth checking which class Misty's brother is in Colin

Edited to add that both classifications above in italics start with a Puppy class.

Thanks for that Michele, looks like I won't have to speed my way down the M4 in a mad panic to see the pups after all. :)

I for one had a nice day Jane and it was lovely to see Ruby again

Having the whole day there this time I thought I'd have a good opportunity to watch alot of the classes but as soon as all the COL members rolled in we did hardly anything but chat   :D

Nice to see everyone as usual...was particularly nice to meet Louise with Alfie for the first time (he's gorgeous Louise)

Lottie wore her nose out when I got home.  She didn't stop sniffing me for about 20 minutes (Misty had licked me to death at the show  )

It was the first show I'd been to and I really enjoyed it, although as Mary says, we all spent more time nattering than watching the dogs. We did all rush round to watch Ruby though, she is a stunner and looked to be really enjoying herself in the ring. She strutted round like she was the bees knees, which of course she is ! :D

It was nice meeting up with Mary, her daughter Alice and Loraine again and also to meet Michele and Lou/Eljay for the first time. (Thanks for the grooming tips, Michele   )Alfie is a very handsome boy .... Misty obviously thought so too the way she lay on her back for him, legs apart in a very unladylike manner.   I was very impressed with Lou's grooming skills, Alfie was very well turned out. :D

Misty wasn't entered but had a whale of a time, being surrounded by so many people and dogs she was in seventh heaven, wagging her tail the whole day. We saw her Mum, brother and grand-dad and she had photos taken by Tracey Morgan too. One of my neices won a plate in the raffle, which rather bizzarely said "Mothers Day 1973" on it, but it seemed to make her day anyway !

Next time I might get round to watching the dogs in the ring !

Well I had a good time too and it was nice to meet some new faces as well as seing some familiar ones (keep everyone happy Michele  )

Louise/Eljay is obviously being modest as she got a 2nd with Alfie in her class, so well done to both of you. And Colin is right you'd turned him out beautifully Lou. Hope you celebrated with your raffle prizes (2 bottles of drink......hic :D )

What a great day!!   :D I eventually got home exhausted, but happy. Alfie never moved all the way home, in fact he sat up just as I pulled onto the drive.  :)
It was the first time I've done a champ show so I was very nervous. Alfie seems to take it in his stride though. His crate was next to Ruby's, but I didn't realise it at first and by the time I did I was too embarressed to say anything to Andrew. But Ruby is a beautiful girl and she looked lovely in the ring.
It was great to meet up with the COL team, and Misty is a little gem, and Alfie was very taken with her. I think it's another girlfriend for him, (along with the great dane at ringcraft !!!)
I wish I'd have found you all earlier in the day as we could have chatted some more. It would be good to meet up at a show again, Crufts is probably the best one as we can shop as well as chat and be surrounded by dogs.  What more could a girl want.    Thanks very much for the compliments about Alfie, I'm still learning with him and have a way to go , but I think we're going in the right direction.
and as Michele says we did get a 2nd in the tyro class, and I won two bottles of wine in the raffle :D I haven't drunk them yet though as I was so tired when I got in I was in bed by 9.30pm!!! I am off to ringcraft tonight as we have our super match so am getting him ready again. I'll let you know how it goes.
Alfie sends a big kiss to Misty.

Glad you all had a good day & well done to Lou & Alfie for their 2nd place! Lou, don't be embarassed, next time speak to Andrew - he can't remember names but if you say the magic words "Cockers Online", the lightbulb would have gone on

We had a good night again at our Super match evening, apart from arriving late as the kids were playing up before I left. (My youngest is at the Kevin stage!! ) Anyway, we got second in the puppy class, we were beaten by the Rottweiler, but we enjoyed ourselves as there was a nice buffett and won another bottle of wine and a clock in the raffle.
We haven't got another show now till Dec 21st in Colchester, so a bit of a break, but I wish I was going to LKA, as so many people seem to be going there.
Good luck to anyone heading that way.
