Hi Dessie,

I hope to be coming to Crufts too and as my little girl does not have school that day, she will be coming too and is REALLY excited!  She keeps asking me what it will be like, but it's nearly 20 years since I was last at Crufts (in the old Earls Court days), so it may have changed a bit!  I just told her BIG, with lots of dogs and shopping opportunities.  Can't wait and hope to meet up with some COL folk (whether wearing T-shirts or not!)

Just a thought but has anyone got one of those kids badge it toys??

Maybe somebody could make up a big batch of COL badges and leave them with somebody who is showing and we could all pick up our badges and would then be instantly recognisable  We could all maybe throw in some pennies to cover the cost?

I personally dont really want to wear a badge or sticker, to be honest  I think all we need do is arrange a meeting time and place, and swap a few strategic phone numbers so we can chase up anyone who's expected but hasnt yet shown - many of us have met before so there will already be a group of us standing by the time people arrive, and most of you know what some of us look like i.e. Mary, Michele, Gilly, Dessie and me. If you want to circulate photos, we can always do it away from the board if thats any help, by group email so it's not so public? That's just my suggestion anyways

Ha!
there's only Dessie, Jane and Daftcockers who met me at LKA in Birmingham - and if their memories are anything like mine thats probably a distant haze by now - I have a vague impression of what you all look like, but my memory truly is bad !
So if you want a refresher girls, or if any of you who are coming want a quick look at my mugshot theres 1 or 2 on Millies website ..
I'll be taking my phone, so and am happy to pass on the number if someone is collecting them to arrange / chase up the big 'meet'
:)

Just over 2 weeks to go - can't believe time has flown so quickly (sign I'm getting old!)

Those who are showing - which I believe from our list is Kim, Tracey, Michele and Jane/Andrew - can you let us know what time you're expecting to be in the ring, if possible, as I dont want to miss any of you in the spotlight

Ruby won't be in until the afternoon - she's in Mid Limit Bitch. Can't say when for sure as it all depends on how speedy (or not) the judge is

jeez Dessie, you've got my mind whirring now! what am I going to wear!! Initially I was opting for jeans and a jumper of sorts, but it sounds like you lot might be dressing up for the occasion!   better get my glad-rags out of the cupboard (they haven't been aired since before we were cockerfied! )

Does the cocker showing start at 9am ?
I'm beginning to wonder how I will fit in all the shopping, show viewing and essential cocker kisses!!??  :?
I'll have to take a highlighter to highlight all the times / classes I need to be watching so I don't miss any

Hi Kelly

Sorry for getting your mind whirring  Obviously the guys showing will be very smart  but as I'm not showing  I'm in a dilema as to shall I go smart or not

I think the Judging will be around 9 as there are quite a few to get through, I'm sure either Jane, Kim, Michele or Tracey can confirm this for us.

is it correct that there's 355 cocker entries?  :D

Just want to make sure
Title: Crufts COL List
Post by: Jane S on February 19, 2004, 10:34:35 AM
Judging does start at 9am - if you want a seat by the ringside, get their earlier than this  If you're not showing, then I would dress for comfort - no need to bring out the stillettos & sparkly tops (leave those for the American Cocker exhibitors ). Whatever you wear, choose comfy shoes - Crufts is very hard on the feet

Sarah, the entry for Cockers is 382, though there will be some absentees of course.

thanks Jane

BTW is there going to be a dinner break? cause if the judging is from 9-17 and then afterwards the groupfinal (need a good seat) when am I ever going to shop then????????????

What a disaster
Title: Crufts COL List
Post by: Jane S on February 19, 2004, 02:25:28 PM
It depends on what the judge wants to do - sometimes they will go for a lunch break but others will just have a quick sandwich sitting at the judging table to keep things moving along. It is very hard to watch all the judging & do your shopping - you need to stay for 2 days
Title: Crufts COL List
Post by: Sarah_S on February 19, 2004, 02:54:07 PM
If I (i.e. Indy) don't have pups next year, I'll have to come again and stay for 2 days.

I better write down what to buy or else I'll probably forget    with the limited time for shopping. I do hope for a lunch break

What you need to do is get there dead early, well before judging starts at 9am, the stalls should be open, so you can shop then !

Unfortunately I can't say what time any of us will be in the ring, as whilst we know the total entry we don't know the numbers in each class until the day.

Linda - The classes at Crufts are as follows, they differ slightly from ordinary Champ shows in as much as the age qualification slighty differs.
The classes for Cockers are as follows :

Veteren Dog                Veteren Bitch                 Not less than 7 yrs old
Special puppy dog        Special puppy bitch        between 8 & 14 mths
Special Junior dog        Special Junior bitch         between 8 & 18 mths
Special Yearling dog     Special Yearling bitch      between 12 & 24 mths
undergraduate dog       Undergraduate bitch      not won CC or 3 or more
                                                                     1sts except in or mp

Mid limit dog                Mid limit bitch                Not won 3 CC's or 5 or
                                                                      more 1sts in mid limit,
                                                                      limit or open.
Limit dog                     Limit bitch                     Not won3 CC's under
                                                                     different judges, or 7 or
                                                                     1sts in limit or open.
Open dog                    Open bitch                    For all dogs of the breed.

All 1st wins mentioned are for those won at Champ shows.

We will be going to Crufts on Friday (our third year!) :D   Jeremy and I hope to get lots of goodies for Barley and Bramble, and of course see all the gorgeous Cockers!

Two of my workmates have volunteered to help on the stand this year on the Friday, so if any of you COL peeps visit the BLUE CROSS stand, please say hello to them from COL and Sue Hook!

Looking forward to seeing everyone - we'll make some sort of COL stickers to wear!

Well I'm coming from Scotland and having a stop over in Manchester the night before    I asked my dad as he drives everywhere and knows everywhere and he said I would need to leave Manchester at 6.00am the very latest if I wanted to make Birmingham for 9.00am   due to the commuter traffic etc  :( So i will be there 1st thing hopefully  :?
Can anyone answer a quick question for me  :?:  because its a long day etc and because I'm bringing 2 kids, I thought it might be a good idea to bring 2 collapsible chairs (the ones that fold really small) in case I can't get a seat....is this a good idea??? I'm also coming heavily equiped with plenty of grub as I refuse to pay the rip off prices
You'll see me coming a mile off    I'll be the one with the huge rucksack, chairs a tent, a camping stove......OK I'm kidding

Edited to add.....I got my tickets today  :D

Got my tickets too   I dont mind what time- i'll probably be flitting about all day, but plan to get there earlyish, depending on the traffic.

I'm a bit concerned Kim - I hope too many people wont distract you or your dogs (or the people around you)?  :?

My thoughs exactly Mike.  We can see how we go as long as it is still OK with Kim.  Maybe meet at her Benches and then move to a quieter area although saying that it is total bedlem by the Cocker Rings as they are such popular dogs    Word must of got out

I'll be bringing loads of Guernsey Gache all buttered with Guernsey Butter.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness  :)

Depending on where my benches are, last year I was on an end of a row & had loads of room, but the year before, in the middle of a busy row opposite stalls.

Meet at my benches by all means, then see what the situation is ok ?

You all have to come for a tipple to celebrate with me tho, will have to decide what time is decent to open the wine !

I was thinking the same thing Mike  :?  We wouldn't want people complaining by clogging up the benching area

Will you lot stop going on about Crufts - it's just not fair    Seriously though, it's a good point Mike makes about clogging up the benches - last year Ruby's bench was right in front of the Cocker Club stand so you can imagine that it got a bit crowded round there! There's a grooming area at the back of the benches which is usually a bit quieter with more room to breathe so that might be an option for you all.

And now to another silly question (hopefully the last one   ) Is there anywhere you can sit if you want to see all the judging, or do you have to bring a chair ?

There is seating around both rings but seats get taken very quickly so it's usually standing room only by the time things get going

Gilly, bringing collapsible chairs is a very good idea, especially with two children in tow :D

If the trade stands are laid out in the same way as previous years we could meet by the Pedigree Chum stand (unmissable) in Hall 4 as that is close to the cocker rings...........just a thought  :?

For those of you asking for bench numbers, mine is 9169  :D

I have to be honest Michele...I am not relishing the thought of dragging my hubby and 2 kids around with me all day  :? Originally I was supposed to be coming by myself
So they have ALL been warned
My youngest daughter can't walk around the supermarket without either needing the toilet or moaning she's tired    hence my reason for bringing the chairs

I think the Pedigree stand sounds a good idea....that way we won't be in the way too much...and by the sounds of it there are going to be a fair few of us  :)
Title: Crufts COL List
Post by: Michele on February 26, 2004, 05:44:44 PM
I emphasised Hall 4 as there will be other Pedigree Chums stands throughout, and I'd hate to think someone would be waiting to meet up and miss out

For those of us who are showing and either don't use a trolley to transport the dogs in, or prefer them to walk, here is the weather forecast for the  Birmingham area on Friday 5th

http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/UKXX00...t&code=code&y=0 (http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/UKXX0018?x=0&post=post&code=code&y=0)

I know I shouldn't admit to this at 45 years young, but........the adrenalin is already going and      :D I'M GETTING EXCITED :D

Gilly, you can always pack hubby & kids off to the Special Events Ring, where they can sit down and watch heelwork to music, agility and other demonstrations all day if they want to,    :D

I've hardly had chance to come on here in the past few days and there is so much to catch up on

Gilly....looks like Beth and Alice will be coming (well...maybe :D   ).  I'm sure Adrian will be able to handle 2 more children

OK...so, is it Kims bench initially and see where we go from there or is it Hall 4 at the Pedigree Chum stand? :?  Has a time been arranged? I'm hoping to get there early before the world and his Uncle turn up as I'm buying my tickets on the door.

It's all pretty exciting I agree Michele

Emma....really hope you'll be able to come

Yes I think we should set a time because I don't know what anyone looks like  :?  otherwise we might end up wandering around the cocker ring whispering "I wonder if they are from COL"
How about 10.00am...that gives everyone a chance to arrive  :?:  and I think we should finalise a meeting place  :)

My bench mumbers are 9119-9123.

Last year we had a lovely spot close enough to see the ring but out of the way, but the year before I was benched behind the seats around the ring  Hoping we get a quiet spot again as it gets pretty stressful when there is not a lot of room

We're travelling down by car and have  some spare room, so if anyone wants a lift please feel free to let me know. I think we're going to be leaving Blackpool between 5-30 and 6-00am

I think arranging a time to meet is a very good idea, but I think it'll have to be restricted to those who aren't showing as none of us are going to know exactly when we'll be in the ring and might need the time before going in the ring to do some last minute grooming
Finding us who are showing will be easier anyway because we'll be wearing our bench numbers  :D

Tracey, I know what you mean, I'm only taking Otis  8)  and its been pretty intensive this last week  It struck me this afternon as I was working on his coat, that there'll be hundreds if not thousands of other people up & down the country doing exactly the same thing :D

Only one week to go!!!
I'm getting very excited too and I'm not taking a dog with me. I have got camera and shopping list at the ready. Me and my sister are travelling up and stopping overnight so we can get there early... hopefully.
Is the time for meeting up 10.00am? and are we aiming for Hall 4 pedigree stand?
Will need to add this to my list
Good luck to all of you showing.

I think meeting at 10am in Hall 4 at the Pedigree Chum stand is probably the best bet - anyone who arrives before or after that time can go make themselves known, if they so wish, at any of the bench numbers provided where the rest of us are bound to be at some stage during the day - does that sound okay with everyone? If anyone wants my mobile number, drop me a pm. Really looking forward to meeting up with everyone  :D

Managed to have another sneak before leaving for Southampton this PM.

I would like to see a Blue Roan win as well Sh Ch Bitcon Pickpocket, Sh Ch Penmarten Artful Antics or Bitcon Time Traveller.  Of course there is only one winner in the Bitch class and that's RUBY    Wouldn't it be lovely to see an Orange win BOB.

See you all tomorrow morning bright eyed and bushy tailed !!!

I wouldn't hold out any hopes for an orange winner  I'd hazard a small bet that a solid will win the DCC - not sure about the bitches though

I think it would actually be a really bad thing if a Cocker ended up Best in Show - the breed is already popular enough in my book with too many irresponsible people churning out puppies to meet the demand :( It always happens - whichever dog wins Crufts is flavour of the month for a while with the impulse puppy buyers (though it probably didn't apply last year with the winner being such a specialised breed )

Good luck to all showers

The local radio stations were reporting traffic chaos on all the local motorways M42, M40 and M6 from 8.00 until 13.00 today.  It was no better this evening either.  One station reported the Police asked locals not to abandon their cars on minor surrounding roads as this was adding to the traffic problems.  It appears local residents gave up waiting in queues, opting to leave their vehicles to return and collect them later this evening. Probably a good idea to allow extra time for your journeys, especially anyone travelling southbound on the M42 as there are additional roadworks between junction 11 and 10 for bridge repairs.

I'm going up tomorrow Emma so I can have a wander around the trade stands  It's Working & Pastoral on Saturday & Terriers on Sunday. Both days will be very busy so best to get there early before the crowds get too much. On Sunday, it's pre-booked tickets only to access the Best in Show ring but not for general admittance so you would have no problems getting in. There will be some agility on Saturday not sure about Sunday but if you look at the KC site, you'll find a full programme of what's on where on each day :)
