Title: M And S Insurance
Post by: dog2 on August 19, 2004, 03:27:41 PM
want to insure Benj with the marks and sparks pet insurance no excess deal.but dont know if he is a full cocker or not.the vet has him down as a cocker but lots of people have commented on his hight and his length and comparitively short ears.so not sure if he will be a pedigree or a x breed for insurance purposes. You can see his pics on the new rogues gallery(no 36 shows him best) and could anyone be so kind as to let me know what they think? He was a rescue and came with no papers.

Not all cockers are standard so it would be difficult to say and the insurance will go with what your vet says.

Well he looks like a cocker to me  ;)  but he's clipped very short so that may be the reason for peoples confusion    let's see what everyone else thinks  ;)

Definitely a cocker and his ears are short because they are clipped so short. When I feel my 2s ears they have a lot of fur compared to actual ear.

Benji is a cocker. One who has had a run in with the clippers, but a cocker :D

 Benj is clipped very short as he had been neutered before we had him and I was told by the homechecker that it was why his coat is like an overstuffed mattress and grows all thick and wavy/curly.He hasnt got a fine feathery coat which is a shame so to keep him comfortable he has the short back and sides. As he is also overweight he finds it better to be short clipped. He is a very large cocker in hight and length and when we come across 'normal' sized cockers he does look a bit odd. :( It has been suggested to me that he is a mix between a cocker and something else which has given him the large size and the massive ribcage that he has.Anyone coming on the surrey walk will meet him and be able to see what a big boy he really is...but also what a soppy boy he is :P

It's unlikely Benji is crossed with anything - his colouring would be hard to reproduce in a mixed breed mating. You do see some very big Cockers now & again - they're still Cockers just bigger & heavier than the average ;)

well thanks for all the replies to if Benj is a pure cocker or not  I really would love to have met his mum and dad and any brothers and sisters he may have had.Or even to know where they are now.But as the people who had him before wouldnt have known the truth if it bit them i doubt very much I will ever know about his background and why he is such a funny shape bless him.In all other cocker ways he has the true character of the cocker spaniel. :P

Benji looks very similar in body shape to both Toby and Ollie.
Toby is a very stocky (and quite tall) cocker and has slightly shorter ears than an average cocker. At one point someone suggested he might be a working cocker as he didn't have much coat. But after looking at pictures on the net I think he is a definitely a show cocker...his coat has grown a lot now too.

If you don't want to clip Benji you could try a Mars Coat King by the way  :)

I think with rescue cockers they are more likely to have "imperfections"...they are more than likely not from good breeders in the first place. But they are still very much cockers, and Benji is a lovely boy  :D
