Harvey is with More Than, we have to pay 70pds excess then 10% of the vets bill, which seems pretty expensive to me, but as we have used our insurance I believe it makes it harder to change  companies.  >:D

I'm with PetPlan too, and got to say they are really good. They have always payed out for Brodie without any problem, and even covered her dental surgery which a lot of companies wouldn't. I would recommend them, but they are expensive - Brodie is only four and I'm paying £38 a month. Goodness knows how much it will be when she is older. Plus once she reaches a certain age I will have to pay 20% of any claim, although it seems that is something other companies do too. I think there are cheaper policies out there that cover just as well as PetPlan.

I also can't change to another insurance as she has pre existing illnesses that they wouldn't cover.

I went with John Lewis after reading about on here. £16 per month for Charlie (1 year).

I am with John Lewis too and really happy with them so far.
They had a cheque in the post for my claim within one week of me sending the claim form back.
I pay £16.70 or something like that.

I am wih Kennel club health plan for both of mine which is £65 excess plus 10% of the bill but is cover for 10,000 per year and costs around £45 for the 2.  Otto is 3 and Albie is 2, never claimed off Otto but claimed 4 times for Albie in the past 18 months at around £1,600.

I am with pet plan, I just continued with it following the four free weeks offered. I haven't made any claims so really can't comment as to whether they are good.

Pippa is insured with John Lewis.  She's just over a year old.  Her renewal premium came the other day and is up £1 a month to £19 with lifetime cover, up to £10,000 a year and £75 excess.

Barney (Fauve de Bretagne) is insured with the Kennel Club.  He is two and his premium is now £31 a month,  up £4 on last year despite no claims.  He has lifetime cover of £5,000 a year and also £75 excess.  They are now offering a pet health advice line staffed by vet nurses though, which I like the sound of and whch might come in handy.  Fauves seem to be more costly to insure than cockers.

M&S here - have been with them since Jarvis was a pup and as he's had a few minor claims over the years it's difficult to change.  Heading up to £40 per month but he's 7 and he's an entire male (which makes him expensive as entire dogs are far more likely to get injured fighting doncha know - well that's what they told me when I asked why his premium was higher than a friends who's dog is neutered....and the cost varies dependent on where you live too.)

They pay out very promptly, the excess is £70.00.  After his grass seed incident they paid up within 3 weeks.

RSPCA here, been with them for about 7 years, never bothered to change because I was happy with the service, the price and the plan.
Always found pet plan to be way to expensive for my liking when I got the same policy for half the price of pet plan with RSPCA.

I pay about £28 for Millie (11), £25 for Jennie (8) and £16 for hazel (10months) I get around £10 off all of this for having all 3 insured with them.

They paid out Jennies disc problem no problem and have never been a issue to deal with.
£75 excess, £6500 per condition per year, life cover and no % to paid above any age.

Healthy Pets, premiums have gone up quite a bit over the time I've been with them but they've paid out thousands for Tilly over the last few years; payments are always very prompt and they've never quibbled about any of it.

Sainsbury's. Never had any disputed claim, but Ollie's premiums have doubled this year. Together my two dogs cost over £100 per month.

Some of those work out more than I pay for my car insurance!!!

I haven't got my collie x insured and so I'm torn as to whether I should insure this one or not.

Have seen some accident only policies which are less per month and will pay up to 4000. But I take it if they developed a condition which would affect them for the remainder of their life it would not be covered? Is that right?

has anyone any experience of 'animal friends' insurers? Or accident only cover?

Ta!

I'm not sure about accident only cover, but I wouldn't risk not insuring - last year within seven weeks the bill for my aunt's older cocker hit almost £7000 after she was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly she was put to sleep after that time, but had things been different then the bills could have soared over that quite easily :-\. It doesn't take much for massive bills to mount up and it would be awful to be in that position and not be able to afford treatment.

I know I will likely struggle with Brodie in her older years, I've already started saving for that 20% I'll be expected to pay for any condition once she reaches old age, but I'm too scared to drop it altogether.

We've insured Milly with Animal Friends. During her first year she had an op on her eyes and some follow up procedures at a cost of just over £700.

Our first year's premium was £147 for lifetime cover with a limit of £7k per condition annually with a £90 excess. We've just renewed at £180 for the next year.

Our claim was dealt with quickly and credited direct to our bank account within a week or so.

Although certainly not cheap I have Tessa my springy and Pops with More Than. Tessa is having Cymalgex and Cartrophen plus weekly acupuncture for osteoarthritis and they have paid for it all no problem, same with poor Pops and the ongoing broken tail saga!

John Lewis here for Alfie... i think we pay around £17 a month. He's almost 3 now and had no claims so far... we went with them after hearing good things about them on here  (they were formerly Greenbee)

M&S and AXA here!

Same here.

I did have Penny with Petplan on highest band but since the renewal was dearer that having 3 with AXA and the fact I am not tied to an insurer because I've never claimed for Penny and next renewal it was an hefty excess plus a percentage of the claim if I stayed with petplan I decided to jump ship.

All ours are with M&S at the highest level of cover:

Two Springer girls, Pebs & Phoenix coming up 8 = £38 & £37
Zac the Cocker coming up 5 = £20
Tango X breed also coming up 5 = £16
Bella JR coming up 6 = £11.34 (only took this out this year so I think there is an online discount)
(All our birthdays are in Nov/Dec  :005:)

My OH has had to claim for the 3 Spaniels at various times for one off incidents (Phoenix managed to slice open the same leg twice in six months on walks) and he never had any problems, paid out quickly etc.  I think at a certain age they start asking for a % of the claim as well as having the excess.  I have thought about changing for Tango as I was paying half that amount 4 years ago, but I think I worry too much about the exclusion of pre-existing conditions even though he has nothing wrong with him.

Both mine with Sainsbury's £12 for 4 year old and £16 for puppy. I think it was up to about £5000 Vet's with £100 excess.

I have just had a new quote from AXA and its gone up by £40 to £186 for Milo so ive changed him to M&S its still £165 which is cheaper than Axa but i would have changed out of principle , as ive never claimed on it and they arent flexible even when you say you will add two more dogs  >:( >:(

Pets at Home - it was by far the cheapest for me.  It's a postcode lottery as other ones I tried which were recommended and cheap - I received much higher quotes than other people (for a puppy).

Petplan paid out a fortune over the 3 and a half years our GR Cassie had epilepsy. We paid quite high premiums (over £40 a month for the last year) and a £90 excess a year, but her drugs alone cost over £60 a month to begin with, then over £160 a month towards the end, and that's not including consultations and specialist investigations - she went to the AHT for investigations last Nov (brain scan, spinal tap and blood tests) and that alone came to almost £2,000!  They never once quibbled, and even paid out when she had to be pts.
