how to entry on YKC handling? for people who are not from UK?
Junior Handling is until 18 yrs,YKC handling is from 18? have I right?
Iva
Hi Iva, YKC show handling finals + YKC stakes finals are held every year at crufts. The handler has to be between 6-25 years of age. The stakes classes are judge on the dog's merit. Whereas handling is of course on the handlers ability. Show handling is judge within age groups of 6-11 years and 12-16 years and within the group your dog is in. Gundog, is the most popular and this is why it is the most difficult group to qualify in (we'd be ok, if we had toys or hounds lol!). At the moment to qualify, for the handling the handler has to gain a 1st in YKC class at a champ show or a JHA class (at a champ show if YKC classes are also on) or selected BIG open shows (which are usually too far away!) This year was the last year that senior handlers did not need 2 qualify for, however from this year we will need to get a 1st at a champ show to do so.
As for the stakes classes, the dog and handler have to enter a YKC stakes class at a champ show (or one of the few larger open shows) and win the class, then they go to the final of the group at crufts and then if they get 1st in the group, they then compete with the other 6 group winners for the title of YKC Stakes winner of the year.
YKC is set up for young people in the UK, however I notice that there was a number of handlers this year that once lived in the UK qualified and then moved abroad and came back for the competition.
Fran and Gracie did very well indeed, as cockers quite easily get over looked in both the stakes and handling classes, by the number of larger dogs within the competition!
Hope that helps
