Companion Show
« on: May 30, 2007, 04:21:34 PM »
There is a Companion Show this weekend in Downham Market and my daughter was desperate to take mocha in the young handlers class, can anyone tell me what this would entail?  For instance would she be able to have mocha in a head collar and what would she have to do?

At the companion show i went to last weekend i saw loads of dogs in harnesses and a few in headcollars. (Much to my relief every single dog was pulling on the lead too! :005:)

I'm not sure exactly what it would entail but the young handler class we saw was very relaxed, there were even under 4's being helped by parents.

Sorry i'm not much help, but it's worth giving it a go. :D
Owned by Jarvis (Cocker), and Lucy (Cavalier).

Thanks Beth, Katie can normally walk him on a normal lead but I am not sure in a new place how he will be and he is likely to want to say hello to other dogs.

Well we went to the show and had a great time.  Katie got a 3rd in the Young Handlers Class, and 3rd in the Dog Placed but not 1st Class (something like that) and a 2nd in the Pet Dog Competition judge by the local vet.  I am so proud of Katie for going into the ring and being so confident with Mocha and the Judges, and mocha did great to!

Well done! My son Dominic really enjoys junior handling - if your daughter likes it too, she should join YKC and then she can enter Discover Dogs at Earls Court in November!  It is really good fun for the kids to take part in - and teaches them a valuable lesson whether they win or not (good for self esteem if they do, good to learn to lose graciously if they don't!)
Best of luck and hope your daughter goes from strength to strength.
Penny,   Dexter (cavalier x poodle), Alfie (Whippet cross)  and  Maximus the cocker spaniel!!

RIP my 2 most gorgeous cocker girls - Buffy and Harriet - both waiting for me at the bridge. Joined by my beloved Josie taken too soon and Suki aged 13 :(
