showing neutered dogs
« on: May 04, 2004, 08:41:07 PM »
Hi everyone

I just wondered if anyone could tell me whether you are allowed to show dogs that have been neutered?  Are there certain competitions that they can be entered for and ones that they can't?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm fairly sure that you can show neutered dogs but you have to inform the kennel club beforehand. Obviously with cockers, once they are neutered, their coat texture changes which makes it very difficult to handstrip and that would be the major stumbling block   Of course, you would be still be able to do exemption shows.

I think Gill might be right...although I was under the impression that you couldn't show a neutered dog  :? I though they had to have 2 you know whats present    although maybe you can in the veterans  :?:
As Gill said though I think the texture of a neutered dog can change dramatically and would be very hard to handstrip...which is what is required for showing  :)

The Kennel Club does allow neutered dogs to be shown but you have to notify them first (there's a form you can download on the KC site at http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/forms/fo...formsIndex.html). However, as Gill & Gilly have pointed out, neutered Cockers will be at a considerable disadvantage as it's impossible to get the coat of a neutered Cocker to look anywhere near as good as an entire dog & it has to be said that realistically a neutered dog is unlikely to get anywhere at the serious shows (Open Shows & Championship Shows). There's no reason why you couldn't have fun at the informal Companion Dog shows where competition is not taken so seriously, particularly in the novelty classes like "waggiest tail" & "most handsome dog" etc :)

Hi

Thanks to everyone for your help on this subject.  You have given me a lot to think about.  As Louis coat won't be as good this will obviously affect his chances of getting anywhere.  I think that I will have to look at some of the other competitions that have been mentioned which are not as serious.  Does anybody have any idea where I could find out about these types of competitions accross the country?  I suppose I could ask my local training centre.  Once again, thanks for your help.

In Holland it's not allowed to show neutered dogs   But here are little shows where you can bring your dog out.

Last year Joep and Joris went to such show. Joep has a very nice report, and our Joris won the third price in the age 1 till 3 years

I think that the atmosphere is much better at such show instead the cac/cacib shows  :D
Greetings,

Annemie and a big kiss from Joep, Joris and Henry

Thanks for all the useful links, they are really helpful, everyone has so much knowledge and experience.  It's good to know if I ever have a cocker question I can rely on my friends at cockers online.  Thanks

Bye the way Kelly, I think Louis looks very like Millie.  I think they must be related, his grandfather is Lynwater Noels boy,  and his GG Granmother is sh.ch lynwater forget me not.  If I can remember from your web site are these some of Millies ancestors?

These sort of things go on all over the country during the summer, just look out for them in your local press (they are often also at village shows where other stuff goes on as well—our local church has a companion dog show each year and further up the valley the local horticultural society show off their veggies and have a fun dog show as well). Often the programmes for the ones I go to have the pedigree ones to start off, e.g. toy, gundog, working, pastoral, open pedigree, followed by best 6 legs, prettiest bitch, dog most like their owner, dog the judge would most like to take home. They are fun to go to as you meet lots of like-minded dog owners (I still get kids coming up to me asking after my 2 after seeing them at the local dog shows).

If you want to go further afield then dogpages keeps a list of events that people have posted on their 'events forum' (http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?act=SF&f=5), and I think Ray the mod there has put a list for May events on the dog chatter forum at the moment (http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.ph...=ST&f=1&t=33922), and for the rest of dog stuff:

Thanks for the pics of Louis ancestors, I had already seen Lynwater Noel, but I hadn't seen Lynwater forget me not.  I have been looking for a picture of his father Lynwater Noels boy, but haven't had any luck yet. Thanks again, I can see where Louis gets his markings and size from.
