Personally, I wouldn't feed either, especially to a puppy, if I can afford a better quality food. However I do understand when money is tight
so let's have a look at them side by side:
http://www.jollyes.co.uk/lifestage_dog_puppy.htmTHe Jollyes lists 36% chicken meat meal, which is a bit low for puppies (but par for lower end dog foods) with rice and corn next, followed by the fat source (which puppies need) Since "meal" has had it's moisture content removed, we can be pretty assured that it is a true 36%. I'm not thrilled about corn in dog food as it is not easily digested by dogs
http://www.purina-proplan.com/uk/dog/puppyAllSizesOriginal_more.aspBy comparison, Purina shows having 20% chicken, not meal, but that means the chicken
before the moisture has been taken out for the purpose of dry kibble. This means that you are now down to about 7% chicken
Then we have a lot of rice, wheat gluten--not a good thing, it is the junk that is left over when the good stuff is taken out, but artificially boosts the protein content; "dehydrated poultry protein"
the junk parts of miscellaneous poultry; animal fat (no species given-could be anything
) "digest" (usually the stomach contents of cows) and more wheat
Given a choice between only the two, I think I'd go for the Jolleys (and I bet it's the Purina which is more expensive?
) but if you can affor it I would look for a better food with a higher meat content and better quality "other stuff"
