Now I am worried - update surgery tomorrow- update -results
« on: February 13, 2010, 11:19:54 PM »
After bathing Alfie yesterday I noticed a red lump on one of Alfies hocks, which was oozing slightly. I just thought it was small lesion like when he flares up, but tonight it is bleeding and looks much worse  :-\ I recalled conversations on here about histiocytoma, googled it for a pic and it looks identical to that.

How soon would I need to get him to the vets? Can it wait until Monday? I know its probably just a benign thing, but it is worrying me  :'(

Any thoughts please.

One of mine had one, I would say Monday would be fine, vets didn't do anything anyway, justsaid itshould dry up on it's own keep it clean with hibiscrub and if it gets worse go back and they could remove if necessary.  Itgradually started to shrink, but it took about 3 months To go completely.  Hope he is ok. :)

It can wait  ;) Most of them are benign, and often clear up on their own without treatment

Get a good nights sleep, he'll be fine

Poor Alfie :-* Millie had one of those on her head a few years ago now. We took her to the vet who gave us some ointment to use for a week (!?!) to see if it got any smaller. It didn't so they operated but from discovering it to operating was 2 or 3 weeks so I think waiting until Monday will be fine. Betty's half sister had one removed last year from her front leg and everything was ok with her too.

I'm sure Monday will be ok. Dyllan had one a couple of years ago on his front leg,vet removed it because of where it was (Dyllan could get to it and chew :P)

All went well :luv:

Sometimes, if left, they go away on their own.

Thanks everyone  :luv: I dont think he is chewing it atall, as I say I only noticed it when grooming him. I would prefer not to have anything done if we can get away with it, but obviously will be advised by vet.

Thanks again.

It's always a shock and a worry when you find something, all sorts of things race around in your mind in that few minutes before you calm down and can think rationally again. :-\

You can definitely wait until tomorrow to see a vet, and hopefully it will soon go away on it's own. :luv:

I posted a few weeks ago about a hystiocytoma on Jasmines nose, I was so worried as it grew at such a speed and it bled a little when she knocked it. Within a week it went from a tiny raised lump to a big pea sized lump on her nose.  I took her to the vets and they said it should go away on its own but if it kept bleeding or changed at all then to take her back. I am pleased to say it has now dried up and shrunk away in a matter of a few weeks.
However like you I was very very worried at the time and all the lovely COlers helped to put my mind at ease. Its so very scary when you find a lump.
I so hope that Alfie is as easily cured as Jasmine. Thinking of you

Keli had something similar in his ear a few years ago and I paniced then. I used something called Colloidal Silver solution. I dabbed it on 3 times a day for about 2 weeks and it completely disappeared. Some people also use Manuka honey.
