I remember when my uncle had King Charles Spaniels he always fasted them one day a week.  Don't think mine would approve :005:

I don't see the point in doing that
Unless it is prior to an op. etc
Imo if your dogs love their food & really look forward to feeding times then surely it would be mean not to feed them.

I don't fast Ollie but I know people do. It certainly puts a stop to fussy eaters apparently :005:

Yes I fast.

They are fasted for half a day a week from the age of 4 mths onwards and one full day a week every month until the age of 8mths. Once they reach 8 mths and are on an adult diet they are fasted for one full day per week for the rest of their lives.

Can you please explain the reasons why you fast your dogs Karen?

(I *think* I know why but the details are  interesting for those who haven't heard of fasting dogs before and think it's cruel  ;) )

Worked at kennels in Box Hill during the late 90s - all the dogs were fasted once a week (Sunday).  Was fantastic the day after with less cleaning!  I believe it has health benefits and is good for us humans as well (although can't recall why?)  Hope Bluebell has the answer...
