Strange Behaviour!
« on: June 03, 2012, 10:11:10 PM »
Today my groomer came to the house for a visit.  She brought her partner round too and Lylas behaviour was quite odd so I wondered if anyone could shed any light on it.  Both girls did their spinning, racing, barking 'somebody is here' ritual which stopped quickly ...... as it always does!  Then Lyla sat at his feet and barked.  He petted her which she was happy (and quiet) with but then she would walk away and bark and then go straight back to him and sit and wait to be petted.  She did this so many times we had to put her in crate in the car.  Lyla is not comfortable with strangers until they let her say hello on her own terms and usually she won't let them pet her until she has investigated them thoroughly.  The fact that she barked at him is normal but sitting at his feet to be petted isn't.... :-\. I just wondered if there was something I was missing?

He is a lovely, quiet, shy guy by the way....who loves animals!

Maybe she was getting confusing signals from the guy and was in conflict as to whether to trust him or not?
you say he is quiet, well maybe she was just not quite confident enough to stay to close for to long?

Maybe so Mark, i don't know.  Her usual MO is to stay away and bark from a distance and then gradually sidle over to investigate when she is ignored but she was actively sitting to be petted and only moved away if he stopped.....then barked and then moved over to him again.  This was a strange sit too.  A right in front of him, straight backed and head right up looking him square in the eye sit.  Bizarre!

It also sounds to me that Lyla took an instant liking to him  :luv:
I truly believe they can sense if a human has a genuine love for them  :luv:

It sounds like how Honey reacts with someone she *wants* to trust but still can't let herself relax 100%...
(At least that's how I read it knowing the people she's done this with and reading the rest of her behaviour)

That sounds like it could be it!  She wanted to be with him but just couldn't quite make herself do it... :-\
