Help!!! Advice needed please....
« on: June 06, 2012, 09:29:40 PM »
Our insurance policy expired last month so we shopped around for a better deal and got a quote from the same company in my partners name for cheaper!! Called them and asked if we could just renew with the cheaper amount but the lady told me to cancel the existing policy and start a policy under the new name.

The problem we have now is that we didn't really read the fine print and it says "We will not pay for the any claim for or in connection with any illness or disease arising during the first 14 days of your pet being covered"

We took Indie to the vet 2 days after the new policy started as she had a issue with a yellow stuff being produced in her eyes. Vet gave us some eyes drops but it didn't clear it. We went back today and the vet said he has noticed something else in eye that wasn't there before and has referred us to a specialist.

My questions are will the insurance company try and worm there way out of trying to pay?? Is an eye condition an illness or disease???
How much info do the insurance co ask for and will they check previous visits???

I would be surprised if you were covered to be honest  :-\ usually the insurance company would cover accidents within the 14 days but it sounds like Indie has an eye condition....unless she had a trauma from an accident with the eye?

I called them and they told me to state on the claims form that we renewed online to get the "online discount" hence the new policy number. Let's see what happens.......

Which company is it & how long have you 'collectively' been with them ?

Strictly speaking you arent covered, however under the circs they *may* look at it favourably.

Hi All,

As expected the insurance company tried to wrangle there way out of paying my claim. However after arguing my case and having quick fire answers to all there questions they have decided to pay up. I was really expecting the worst but am very relieved to say the least!!!   :D

I am sorry to be a bit blunt here... but the insurance company isn't trying to "wrangle their way out of paying" your claim! You cancelled your old policy, then set up a new policy. There isn't a single pet insurance that will take on pre-existing conditions; so you were extremely lucky that they decided to pay and that is really just out of goodwill, as they didn't have to! It is in this particular case really not the insurance's fault - with perhaps the exception that they should have advised you of it when you asked whether you should take out a new policy... but even that wasn't even their responsibility.

We only cancelled our policy at the advice of one of there sales people/customer services, we didn't even consider doing that until they mentioned it. In my book (and so it seems, theres aswel) makes it there responsibility as the person is employed by them. Luckily I have a recorded copy of that conversation.....
