Other Dogs
« on: September 23, 2012, 09:29:33 PM »
I have a gorgeous 2 year old show cocker, who is a dream with other dogs until her family (me, OH, DS & 2 x DD) stroke or pet  the other dog, then she becomes very possessive and snaps and barks at the offending dog. I would really now like to extend our family and add another pooch to the mix but wonder if I am heading for trouble with her possessive behaviour or is it something she will overcome with the new dog.???

Jinley is much the same.

She thinks it is okay to go up to other owners for a fuss and treat, even sitting at their feet if we are talking.  But if another dog dares to come to me for the same, she is soon back!!

With regards to treats, when I was at my daughters with her 2 dogs (and I now do it out with other dogs) only the dogs that were sitting quiet had the treat, she soon learned that she had to do the same.

The problem with able to fuss another dog is a difficult one, I think I have made it worse by avoiding fussing other dogs to avoid any conflict.
