Title: Hello, I'm a newbie!
Post by: padfoot on February 20, 2004, 02:21:40 PM
Hi,
Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I live in Birmingham with hubby and three children, our rescue English Setter Millie and a ragdoll cat.
My new addition is arriving in the morning, a six month old golden cocker spaniel who was sent to a rescue in Ireland. "Ben" was given to his owners by a breeder to pay off a debt
Things did not work out and he ended up in a rescue centre.  :(
Their loss is my gain as I have always loved cocker spaniels but I would only choose to have a rescue dog. I applied to cocker rescue and was turned down because my children are not all over seven. I can understand this as I realise the dogs are rehomed from one home to another and there is no way of being sure of the dog's previous treatment or history.
This little boy has always lived with children and has proven he loves them, he has a lovely temperament and was sent to rescue because the family's current dog would not accept him.
He will be on the ferry tonight and tomorrow we go to collect him. haven't told the children yet as I don't think our lives would be worth living if they realised that mum is actually driving with Nanny and leaving them with Daddy so that the poor pup can spend the drive home in peace.
I am looking forward to chatting to you all!

Hi Padfoot,
Well done for getting Ben. I'm sure he'll bring you much joy!
I am confused though - I thought animals from Ireland had to go into quarantine. How did you escape?
Cheers,

Welcome to COL :D  Not sure how much sleep your going to get tonight     I hope Ben settles in quickly and you will no doubt soon feel like you have had him forever. Let us know how you get on and can't wait to see a photo.

PS I'm not a cat person as such but I've always said if I was going to get one, I'd get a ragdoll. Think they are gorgeous :D

Mary P...he didn't need the quarantine as he was already vaccinated. Quarantine is only needed for pound dogs who need their vaccinations and health checks and a period of 10-14 days has to pass before they can travel to the UK. As he was surrended by a private home with proof of his vaccinations, he was able to travel immediately.

Bluesmum...lol...must sound weird if you've never heard of one. Go to http://www.tbrcc.co.uk (http://www.tbrcc.co.uk)
Those are ragdolls  :)

I will definitely post some pictures of both dogs by the end of the weekend.
It's strange, I know quite a few English Setter owners who also own cockers! There must be something similar somehow that attracts people!
Are everyone else's pictures in the gallery too? Haven't had a proper look around the site yet.

Just wanted to say, Toby looks lovely  :D   I didn't think he looked like he'd been clipped.  Morgan's hair wasn't much longer than that at 6 months.  He looks like he's settling in nicely.  Have fun!

All the best

Shirley  :)

Sutton Park sounds a good idea  :)
Toby is a lunatic so there would be lot's of space for him to disobey me in  :D
So you don't think he's been clipped Shirley? You know better than me as I haven't got a clue lol!!!

Hi Padfoot, your boy is gorgeous!

I wanted a red one, they are beautiful. Your cats are gorgeous too, we have an 18 week old orange roan boy, Indie, and are quite new here too.

Hi Padfoot

I'll try to get a photo of Morgan at 6 months and post it in the gallery.  Probably tomorrow as I don't have a scanner and only got my digital camera a few months ago so all puppy pics are in a box in the cupboard   :D
I'm no expert though, I've only got one cocker.  Mind you, I'm working on that one
