Wow, he's gorgeous - I bet a springer/cocker mix would be really great - nice size, nice nature etc. You'll probably fall in love with him so much, that you'll only ever want sprockers again.

Love Chris

People do seem to have a problem with the breeding of these dogs I've noticed that too, but at the end of the day, I didn't choose him as a designer dog but a family pet

I'm afraid I am one of them - not because I am a pedigree *snob* but because I think there are enough unwanted dogs already, and to deliberately mate dogs to produce x-breeds, with (usually) no health screening, or consideration for breed standard in order to serve the pet market, is unnecessary, imo   :-\

I hope that your pup will bring you years of happiness and joy  :luv: - it's just that personally, I would prefer not to see this type of x-breed deliberately bred  ;)

Harry is the size of a Springer tho (22.7kg at 10 months)  :shades:.  That's the thing with crosses - you never know what you'll get  ::).

I agree with Rachel in that it does seem a little irresponsible for Sprockers to be specifically bred for pets  :-\

I think looking back that we were perhaps naive  :-\, given the opportunity again we would probably choose differently.  That's not to say we don't want Harry or anything silly like that of course, just that I can see where the comments regarding his breeding are coming from  ;)
Harry the Sprocker - crossbreed I know, but still gorgeous !

Hi all,
Am really enjoying the boards thanks for your kind welcomes  :D
I know Sprockers are a bit of a contraversial subject.

I understand what peaople are saying about breeding the sprockers, and I'm glad people haven't jumped on me for buying one, after all, I bought him, I didn't breed him! If somebody doesn't give them a home then they will end up as just another homeless dog so I don't regret my choice at all. I know people say that you can't be sure of what you'll get with a crossbreed, but surely this doesn't apply the same with a 'Sprocker' because both parents are Spaniels and they have such similar characteristics? You know you'll either get Springer or Cocker traits, likely a bit of each? However I do understand the 'what's the point' argument as surely being so similar anyway there's no real need to cross them is there?

Mutley is still being an angel  :luv: Had a quick go at a bit of lead training with him yesterday and reckon I'm gonna find that part hard work  !!

With the lead training, not sure what you are trying. But we used to hold a piece of cheese (or other treat) in the front of the dogs nose to encourage them along. Might be worth trying that.

Glad to hear he is being an  still,

Hiya,

I think he looks like he could be a right tinker.... so pop him in a jiffy bag and post him to me :005:

Seriously though, he's lovely.

Out of interest what made you choose a sprocker, other than his obvious good looks  :luv:

I didn't set out to intentionally buy a Sprocker, I have to confess I am no dog expert but I knew I wanted a Spaniel though. When I saw the pics advertised, I went to have a look and fell in love  :luv:

My checklist was fairly straightforward,
a) dog not too big
b) dog easy to train
c) dog good natured good with children

So I had narrowed it down to the Spaniel family and when I found Mutley I was happy with the mum and the breeder so that was that really!!

Hiya

Ive just got a 9 week old sprocker (Woody) and so far he is a little gem.  Like you though I have read bad reports.  I do think some people turn their noses up when you say they are a sprocker but I cant wait to see how he turns out.

Good Luck and enjoy x
