Hearing dog
« on: January 04, 2012, 01:31:25 PM »
Hello everyone
I am new to this, but you all seem to be very friendly.
I am very hard of hearing, and having been to Hearing Dogs centre at Saunderton have decided to look for a Cocker Spaniel.  I am unsure as to whether I should look for a working or show dog.  I have in mind a small black bitch puppy to train myself as my hearing dog.  What do you think?

I'm not sure why you'd want to train one yourself?  Are you not eligible for a Hearing dog?  I know there are waiting lists but the work that goes into training hearing dogs is phenomenal and they are expert in gauging whether the pup will be suitable for the 'job' and breed accordingly.

I honestly don't think it's as simple as choosing a working or show cocker pup  :-\
