Title: Lip fold infection??

Cooper is only 4 months but his mouth smells like rotting fish at the sides and I’ve read that it could be a lip fold infection?? should I take him straight to the vet or try and treat myself? I also noticed his teeth are going yellow at the back already   :o

Hi. It might be worth cleaning the edge of his mouth with dilute hibiscrub, dilute 10 to 1. Keep the hair short around the mouth to keep it clean, but at four months I cant imagine it's very long!
You could also clean his teeth. Its a good routine to get into anyway.
A smelly mouth can also be a sign of full anal glands. Hope this helps!

Hi, my Poppy has always had a lip fold problem and I have tried a lot of things over the last 7 years!

I found dilute hibiscrub a bit too harsh for her sensitive skin and was recommended Dermacton cream from Aromesse. This is a completely natural, herbal product and after a couple of weeks use her lip fold is totally clear!   I just use it a couple of times a week now to maintain ☺

And us..Hibiscrub diluted....very dilute....I do it every so often and it seems to keep on top of the issue....

I’ve looked a bit closer  at his mouth and to be honest I don’t think it’s the lip folds but he does have lots of teeth erupting through and I’m thinking it might just be that??

Yes it might be his teething that is causing the issue, it is likely he will be dribbling alot because of it.

If you have some Thornit ear powder (most cocker owners keep it in their first aid kit) you could dust the lip folds with that too after making sure the area is dry.

Our Cocker developed Lip Fold Dermatitis. We tried various topical remedies from our vet but ultimately decided on surgery. That was an immediate success and she's had no trouble since.
