Operation on Monday
« on: November 16, 2013, 03:55:36 PM »
Maddie had three samples of lumps sent away last week and unfortunately one of them has come back as a Mast Cell Tumour.

It was a lump I was quite unconcerned about as it was so small, I was more worried about the other two, it just goes to show that you should get every lump, however big or small checked out as soon as you can.  Maddie is very fit and healthy in herself but she has to go to the Vets on Monday to have the tumour removed (and the other two) to see what grade it is, so we won't know what we are dealing with until the results are back.

Best case scenario is that it is a grade 1 and removing the tumour will get rid of the problem and it won't come back, don't want to think of any other scenarios!!!

What I would like advise on is how can I make it as easy as possible for Maddie, she gets very anxious going to the vets and won't want to be left. We are taking her blanket and a toy and hope this will help a bit

We will have chicken and rice or scrambled eggs for her to eat when she feels up to it and although she normally sleeps with us in the bedroom I thought it might be better if I slept downstairs with her the first night in case she needs to go out.

She cried pitifully for 24 hours after her last general anaesthetic and it upset us all that we couldn't help her more. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I hope everything goes well for you on Monday.  I'm afraid I don't have any advice but hopefully it will all be over quickly and she'll soon forget all about it.

It sounds like you've got everything planned very well for Monday :D.

Sending lots of positive thoughts for Maddie that everything goes smoothly and that the mast cell tumour is a grade one.

So sorry to read about Maddie.  When Ben needed a small op recently, I took him in for his pre med and sedative, then sat in the car for an hour or so till he was really drowsy, then I carried him in to the vet without a murmur, I was able to leave him without either of us being to distressed.

Keeping everything crossed that it all goes ok

Thank you for all your good wishes.

I am getting quite anxious myself about tomorrow, I know it's not the same but keep thinking about leaving Woofie for his operation and never seeing him again. It will be a long day tomorrow

No advice but fingers crossed the cancer will be cut away and cured by the operation. Our Albert recently had liver cancer and had to have an emergency op to cut it away, wanted to tell you this to give you hope as he's currently doing very well, in fact he's pretty much back to his normal self. He is still having chemotherapy and has tolerated the chemo very well

Really hope everything goes ok for Maddie x
