Thank you ALL for your kind thoughts....

Has any one Else had similar problems with there cocker's ..After running around..... for them to go of there legs like are Peggy has!!!!!

Last September Dennis slipped a disc  :'(

We got up that morning and he was reluctant to come down stairs , i thought at the time it was because i was making the beds and he didnt want to go down with my hubby. Then he had a short walk he seemed ok when he got back he didnt want to get on the sofa which wasnt like him and i thought he might not be feeling well  :-\ but i never expected anything like what happened not 10 mins later  :'(

I walked into the dinning room and his back end collapsed and he was screaming in pain  :'( i rushed him up to my vets where he was given several injections for pain etc . Then he was refered instantly to Chestergates but i had to come home and get all my insurance details because they wouldnt see him without sorting out the finances 1st and making sure that they would pay up  >:D

The scan showed that he had slipped a disc and that the centre of the disc had shot out and there was alot of bleeding around his spine. He had surgery to remove the disc and clots etc. Dennis was paralysed and lost control of his bladder (he wasnt able to have a wee ) it is a very long recovery for him and he wont ever be the same again  :'( but hes here and hes happy.

The vet at Chestergates said she had seen a quite a few cockers with IVDD , i know that Cathy (catcmartin ) had similar problems to Dennis with Charlie. I know that there are several grades of IVDD and the lower grades can be managed without surgery.

I really hope that its good news for Peggy  :bigarmhug: i know just how worried and upset you will be right now not knowing exactly whats wrong.

:bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: :bigarmhug: to poor Peggy.

I really hope they are able to get to the bottom of her problem soon. In answer to your question, I have had a dog display similar symptoms but it can't be the same thing as his bloods showed other problems.

It does sound like she's hurt her back, hope it's easily resolved soon and you and your wife get some reassurance later today :-* :-*

Vets have just rang....Good news......

They have said that Peggy will not need surgery...yahoo..

.What they have found is the disc at L5/6 has hemorrhage this is the cause of Peggy losing the use of her back legs this will return very soon they are keeping her in Hospital for a while as they have all the equipment and baths for the therapy work that will take place as soon as she starts to recover.....next phone call will be at Six p.m...

Thank you all for your support and SO kind thoughts..And the road to recovery will soon be in place for are Peggy....Thank you all once again...What a relief for us....

Maria n Dennis....

Thank you for telling us about your story of your dog How awful we just dread to think that could have happen to are Peggy as well...But all seems well from what the vet has said that Peggy should make a full recovery in time to come.....Chris Fran.
