Sorry to hear this :bigarmhug:

Hope that you get more sense out of your usual vet on Monday.

The positive is that with Woofie being so well, he'll cope better with the op.

Sending lots of hugs to you all x

I still can't believe how I came off the phone not being certain.  I asked 'so the cells were cancerous' and 'sorry I must be stupid but are you saying it is definitely cancerous' and both times she managed to waffle so much I ended up confused.

I have looked it up and peri anal gland adenomas aren't cancerous they are called something else. Just wish it was Monday so I could ask Jason, the vet we normally see.

My first Cocker, Josh, had this and prostate problems when he was about 9 or 10. He had the adenoma removed and was castrated at the same time (I know Woofie is already castrated).

Josh was on medication for a mild heart murmur but was otherwise fit. I was worried about the surgery but he sailed through it, recovered really well and went on to live to the amazing age of 16 years and 51 weeks :luv: without any recurrence of the problem.

My understanding then was that perianal gland adenomas are nearly always benign, which Josh's was, and only very rarely cancerous. So I hope you get good news about that when you speak to your usual vet on Monday  :bigarmhug:

Adenomas are benign Lisa.  Barnaby my Many Tears rescue aged approx 9 years, has had 3 operations in the nearly 2 years I've had him, to have around 18  of these growths removed when they've become big enough to be troublesome.    He's got more again now and I will be seeing about removal of some more soon.

He's been fine after all the surgery and recovered really well with no problems.  Your vet will not operate if he is not otherwise healthy enough to withstand the anaesthetic..

They've been referred to as warts but my vet says they are adenomas.

I would not be happy that I had not been given enough clear information by my vet . I think I would be going round to the surgery to ask to see them in person, could you do this?

Take care try not to worry  :bigarmhug:

Hope the  goes well. I am sure it will and he will be back to bouncing around before you know it.

Although the lady wasn't very helpful even though she is a vet, this sort of illustrates why the reception staff shouldn't give results over the phone. They just aren't trained to answer all the questions the owner might have which would lead to even more anxiety.

However I am sure that some experienced receptionists might have left you feeling happier than that vet did!!

Lisa
I know what you are going through, when Chester my CKCS was diagnosed with perianal adenomas I was so worried , but my vet assured me they were benign but had to be removed to stop problems arising later.

Hopefully your usual vet will be able to give you the right information. Thinking of you both for today.
