collected the cocker today
« on: October 29, 2006, 06:08:37 PM »
hi folks,
well after many days waiting,we finally got to pick up our 8 weeks old cocker.

we got some food for him off the breeder,as its the same as what he`s used too, also a print off of his feeding times etc.

we got 6 weeks insurance with the dog through pet plan,i`ve not read through the small print yet.

my wife had him in a box with his blanket & he travelled home with no problems, the first thing we did was say hello to the back garden & then to say hello to his new neighbours.

when he discovered his cage,he kindly left a pooh in it & decided to put his feet in it.

but after a lot of attention during the day,he feel asleep in my younger sons lap & then we placed him in his bed in the cage.

he`s had two meals so far today & poohed 4 times, but the second lot was succesfully out in the garden :)

i was surprised that at 8 weeks old he was trying to mate with anything that gave him attention ?

well thats it briefly for the first day,who knows what tonight or tomorrow will bring

bye for now

Hi Welcome to you and Bramble  :D

You'll be surprised at how much he'll sleep, my cocker pup slept loads more than my other two did. He also created the most noise during the night.  >:(

My Golden Retriever humped my dog doorstop the day we brought him home.  ph34r Then he moved onto my Lab.  ph34r

Good luck for your first night, be strong;)

Congratulations!  Be sure to post pics of Bramble so that we can all get jealous!  Ben was humping his litter mates before he was old enough to come home - when he did get here he humped everything in sight  :005:  I think it's normal  :D

He will learn to sleep at night but it may take a while so grab some sleep when you can  :shades:

hi folks,
thanks for the replies,
really bad night last night,we were awake until 3 am,he yelped & cried continously and loud to say the least.
we ignored him at first, but when we went down to him he had messed in his cage,so we got that changed and cuddled him in and he went to sleep in my arms, put him back in his bed and within 10 minutes he was raising the roof.

but what i did at 3 am this morning,i got the top i had been wearing that day and push some of it through the bars where his bed was and straight away he pushed his head into it & fell asleep until 7 this morning !

he had poohed in his cage again this morning woth signs of blood in it?

but good news is that he used the mat for a wee without any help :)

i`ll get some pics up asap

bye for now

Get the vet to check him over.

I think the worst night we had with our pup was the third one. We couldn't understand why she was howling and barking, or rather yapping from 1am onwards. At 3am I gave up and came down stairs to find her no where in site ph34r. She had got out of her pen and gone out through the cat flap, but couldn't get back in :005:, there she sat on our back door step looking very sorry for herself! So we have covered the cat flap with wood.... The cat has to stay out!

It won't be long before she won't fit!  ;) Coco used to get through the cat flap but now she can only get her head through - so she just stick it through and barks!  :005:

sometimes in the early days as they go off to their new homes the blood in poo is merely stress related, but obviously always needs checking.

hi folks,
just to let you know that i spoke to the vet & he said that because bramble actually had diarhea (not sure how its spelt) at the time when the blood was there,it was because things were passing through its stomach & intestine so quickly there would of been tiny blood vessels damaged & that is were the blood would be coming from ( he did explain in more detail )

if the blood had of been dark in colour, then they would of had to examine him.
but things have settled down now and we`ve had two nights of undisturbed sleep.

bye for now :)

That's good news.  Coco often had a runny tummy as a small pup and it could be triggered by all sorts of things.  I have learned not to panic too much if she is still running around and alright in herself  ;)
