I iz going to school!
« on: July 30, 2009, 12:13:15 PM »
Duggie says: "I iz going to school tonight to play wiv the other puppies and to show off learn how to do my sits and stays and walk on my lead, I can do all that anyway, but I've not done it in public before. Mum sez there iz another Cocky there and he might be my fwiend." :D

It's Duggie's first night at puppy class, I've roped OH in to coming along on the pretext that I may not be well enough some of the weeks and he would need to take him, but it's really so that he learns how to train him as he doesn't think he has to as I'm doing it. So, basically the class is to train OH! :lol2:

Wish us luck! ;)

Well, we're back and Duggie was a STAR! :luv: He was very shy at first, hiding under the chair, but when we went up on the stage with the other newbies to do lead walking he was brilliant, walking perfectly round to heel and sitting every time we stopped. :D  The others had never had a lead on before as their owners didn't realise they could walk them round the garden, so none of them would walk very well. :-\

We walked round for about 10-15 minutes and he (and I) got very bored and he went to sleep! I could have joined him. After that all the dogs had to go through a tunnel and then sit, some were scared, but he raced through and sat cos he knew there was a treat waiting. Then he had a little play with a Bichon Frise, then slept all the way home in the car.  :005:

I don't think he's going to get much out of it other than socialisation, as we have covered all his basic training, but I think he'll still enjoy going once he gets to know the other pups.  :luv:

But, as for OH - I'm not taking him back, he failed! >:( He moaned constantly about it being boring, said he wasn't going up with Duggie to do anything in front of people, then droaned on about it being on for too long and too late at night. As soon as it was finished he bolted out the door and was in the car while I was still in the hall. ::)

Of course Duggie was a star, I would have expected nothing less of him
As you say Fiona, its probably worth it just from the socialisation aspect.
Well done litte Duggie  :luv:

Aww Fiona

See you know what  you are doing with a poopie and others do not - especially putting the lead on and walking round the garden etc

Even if you and him don't get much out of it, it will be a chance to do training around other dogs etc

There was one bit I'd forgotten, it was so funny - when we were walking on the lead one of the tiny Yorkie pups just stopped and wouldn't move, I walked round him, but Duggie was so determined to stay to heel that he walked right over him! :lol2:

I always said I'd never have a puppy cos I wouldn't know how to train them, but the basics are just common sense , lots of repetition and patience, and getting started from day one. Plus it helps to have a very food-orientated dog! :005:

Naughty OH, I would make him go back next week with Duggie, whilst you watch.  ;)

Why is that most men don't have any patience?  ::)
