Question, first of many.............
« on: May 06, 2004, 09:36:51 PM »
Hi,

We are going to visit Abby on Sunday, and we are just wondering if it would be a good idea to take one of the fleece pet blankets we have bought with us so that her Breeder can keep it with her and her mother and then when we pick her up to bring her home we can use this as a comforter?  :?

Any thoughts good idea or bad.

Yes i think thats a good idea, we did that with Jazz, We took a towel, and a soft cuddly toy. she has it in her crate all the time, and still snuggles up to them.

Yes Michelle, I always think that's a nice idea.  I forgot to do that on the visit before collecting Lottie but I took a small blanket on the day and the breeder scented it by rubbing it over Lotties Mum

I did this with Blue and had no sleeping problems at all with him, he still likes his blankie for bed now

I've also done the same with Bailey so I'm hoping it will work just as well this time :D

Snap......we are going to visit Lottie on Saturday and I was going to take a blanket with me.
Although I'm hoping that when she eventually comes home that our lab will be like a surrogate mum. :D

:D how exciting Michelle!

Definately a good idea!  We did the same with Indie, and again no problems at night atall    It works both ways I think, it gives her the scent of her new home and also the scent of her mum and littermates :D

I bet you are sooo excited!  How many sleeps now?

Hi Sheila, my first lab was a surrogate mum, to   pups, cats  rabbits,  hamsters,

And also  little   humans.    :D  She used to round the little ones up, if

she thought they were straying to far a head.

OOooh, that's good to know.
Our lab is very affectionate and adores everyone.
She loves other dogs, so I think she will be in heaven when our new little girl comes home.
I can't wait until tomorrow when we go to visit. :D

Hi Sheila,
Excellent idea taking a blanket for the puppy  :D

Another thing I like to do when introducing the pup into its new home where there are already other dogs, is to rub a towel over the dog/s and wrap the pup in it when you introduce them. This seems to help the bonding process

Billy had his doggy cousin to visit yesterday a 10 week old shi tzu  :D they had a great time tearing round the house, knocking over the children and playing hide and seek, so I get the feeling he will accept a puppy quite easily

Sounds like he will accept your new little one happily, Michelle.

That is a good tip though, about rubbing the towel over the dog already in the home and wrapping the pup in it. I'll make sure to do that :D

I'm really hoping that these measures might make settling in less frightening and upsetting for Lottie.....and that we get less broken nights :)
