Toys to ease boredom?
« on: December 12, 2012, 10:29:12 AM »
Hi All

We just rehomed a gorgeous cocker cross cavalier from Wood Green on Sunday and he is adorable.  He seems to be settling in very well, apart from a little whining when I leave to go upstairs, but he seems to settle after a few minutes.

I just wanted to pick everyone's brains about what kind of toys they like?  When we got him Wood Green told us he was obsessed with a little teddy he had, so we bought him a new one and it's his favourite!  However, he doesn't seem to be very interested in the kong we got him, or any of the chew toys - do they tend to chew?

I've always owned terriers before, so am more used to them playing tug of war and 'ratting' and chewing!

Any advice greatly received!

Thanks xx

Selby never liked his kong, but he just loves and old sock with a biscuit fastened in it.. Oh also an empty pop bottle with the top off and a few bits of kibble in.

Our Jem loves a ball on the end of a rope, she throws it around!

If you are trying to keep him occupied, you could get a stag bar (not a toy, I know!), they last ages. Some dogs aren't bothered with them but plenty love them.

Julie, Ruby and Jem. And never forgetting our first precious dog, Cassie x

If he is fed kibble then you can get a treat ball and see if he'll play with that:

Or wet food:

(Brodie has a medium twist and treat and loves it).

You don't even have to spend any money - hide some treats in small cardboard boxes or those empty cardboard toilet holders and he will have lots of fun getting to them ;). Any sort of tug toy or cuddly teddy will usually go down very well too.

Brodie isn't too interested in chew only toys but loves chews that take quite a while to eat. Pizzle sticks (although very smelly) tend to last quite a while with her.

Thanks guys, that's given us something to be getting on with!  I will definitely try the plastic bottle with treats in, all the ideas sound great actually...

Fingers crossed!!
