Yellow Ribbon - I Need Space
« on: March 24, 2013, 07:06:05 PM »
I saw this mentioned on another thread and think it is a wonderful campaign.  My previous dog was a rescue that just didn't like other dogs in his space, he was not keen on small children either. It was through his trainer that I heard about this.  Today we went for a cocker walk and there was a dog with a yellow ribbon and I could explain to my children that this was a signal that he didn't want to be greeted by other dogs and might not fancy kids getting in his space either.

I've heard about this for about a year now, but still never actually seen one out walking. I think its one of those things that responsible owners will do, but most won't actually care and let their dog run up to others regardless.

Dylan wears a vest stating he is a blind dog, though the lady will print the wording you want on the vest.

Brodie has one on her lead - I don't think anyone I've met has ever known what it is for, so if the idea becomes really well known then it will be a good thing, but think it has a long way to go.

Brodie also has a yellow 'please give me space' vest which I think has a greater impact - not something that can easily be missed!

My concern is if your dog then injured another dog or a person are you admitting liability? I know horse riders used to wear fluorescent jackets with 'caution young horse' on them but don't anymore due to insurance companies saying it is showing the horse is dangerous.

That is a very good point :-\. I guess though, you aren't saying exactly what the problem is - ie they could be wearing a vest or have the yellow ribbon because they have an injury or illness? Though if the dog goes on to bite someone then that could be hard to prove...
