Fostered In: Stone, Staffordshire This truly beautiful lady is the lovely, but slightly bewildered Winnie. She always has a waggy tail and will always greet you with a fuss when you come home. Winnie has only one eye and is an ex-breeding dog who is only now getting used to being loved.
She is a darling girl but a work in progress – we believe it will take a while for her to come round to the idea that walks and social interaction are positive things. Winnie would love to be very sociable with people, she will cower initially but then wags her tail.
Once her insecurity is mastered she just loves fuss and attention. It is just hard to get her to come and interact with her humans in the sitting room at present – she prefers the kitchen area and utility room. This is being worked on.
Her foster family are working on getting her to socialise with them in the sitting room in the evening and are carrying her down the road with her lead and harness attached to let her see that going for a walk and sniff is a good thing. This will need continued work as at the moment she isn’t keen on the idea.
Winnie is housetrained, has no aggressive tendencies whatsoever, she is not dominant with her food, travels well and is very placid at the vets. She hasn’t learnt what toys are for yet. She travels well in the car. Loud noises such as the hoover, startle her at the moment. She has no desire to scale the fencing.
Winnie is happy to be crated, She is fine to be left with other dogs for company – although she does seem to have a penchant for pulling at the rubber matting under the washing machine! She is also keen to help you dig up any plants that she doesn’t like – but has no destructive tendencies otherwise.
She is still learning how to be a pet, and needs work with lead training ,general obedience and socialisation with humans. As yet her foster mum has been unable to walk Winnie on a lead. This is a work in progress - she will sit and watch the others walk but is reluctant to join in as yet. She is sociable with the other dogs in the house (Yorkshire terriers) but hasn’t met any cats yet.
Winnie’s adopter should have an understanding of ex-breeding dogs. Prior to going into her foster home Winnie had no experience of a normal loving home. Her adopter will need to be committed to continuing her basic training, gently helping her with all her good doggy behaviour including walking on the lead.
Winnie will need to be rehomed with another dog to show her how to be a family pet. Her ideal family would be a couple or someone with older children. Her new family will need to have plenty of patience and be prepared to allow her to have her own space.
Winnie is wormed, micro-chipped, flea treated, neutered and fully vaccinated. Prospective adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in her foster home in Stone, Staffordshire.
