sending your cocker to stud?
« on: May 08, 2007, 11:56:46 AM »
im thinking in the future id be interested in sending my cocker to become a daddy

is it possible for a pet owner not breeder to send my dog to stud and if that is so what do you do.  Do you have to be a show winner or have to pay money to the kennel club.

Can anyone offer we some advice.

Thankyou

Teresa and 4 week old charlie, (home on 29th may) pics on way

i have just read a very informative post in the faq's - its so much more involved than  i thought. i certainly need a few more years experience  first before i even think about it.

Definitely a wise realisation  ;)  there is an awful lot more to responsible breeding than meets the eye.

As Abby and Nicola have said, very good plan now that you have read FAQ's.

There is soooo much more to it than many people realise. ;) And at 4 weeks old it is impossible to know if your boy would even be suitable in the future.

Welcome to COL btw, look forward to seeing the pictures

Hi,
It would be very rare for a show person to use a pet dog for stud and it can change your dog using him at stud. Then there are the health checks that would have to be done for PRA and FN which are expensive DNA tests, if he was bought as a pet let him be one.
