How to go about showing
« on: March 05, 2007, 11:16:12 AM »
Ok here goes

Firstly forgive me if this is posted in the wrong place as i was not at all sure, if not please feel free to move it for me  :D

I have an 8 month old cocker bitch called Skye  :luv: ....She is of good show quality....her father was the junior German and Lux champion and went on to become German champ.
I am toying with the idea of showing her but do not know where to begin, maybe initially for fun then becoming serious depending how she does. Can anyone offer any help?
Al, Cath, And not forgetting Skye xxx ;)

Hi

Skye looks gorgeous! If you want to start showing maybe find some small, local shows to get her used to it.  Also if there is a ringcraft class somewhere near you I would take her along.  Ringcraft classes will teach her (and you) what to do at a show.

You can always PM me if you need to.

Good luck!

Just seem some puppy pics of her  :luv:  :luv:  :luv:
Does her breeder show?She/He is the best person to ask if shes show quality
But just because she has Champion for her dad doesnt mean she's show quality.
Like Loujo said Ringcrafts will be the best start for you to learn what to do at show's,most COL'ers started of at Companion Dog shows which are just for fun. Then maybe start doing a couple of Local Open shows

Good Luck

Surely if you want to show then if your dog is or isnt show quality it wouldnt hurt to try some local shows! I dont know about Maudie and if she is indeed show quality, probably not but I am going to try a bit of showing with her! I will probably get a mouthful now lol!

Thanks guys  ;)

Yes the breeder shows and she has said we could give Skye a try  :D, i don't know that i'd show seriously though but i do like the sound of the companion dog shows.
I am currently living in Germany as OH is forces so would have to wait until i get back to UK anyway  >:(
Probably next year, she has had a few lessons on the ring at the cocker meets the breeder organises but thats it, my breeder speaks very good english so I'm confident going to them.

I don't know of any ring classes and feel the language would be a problem...so as i said i will probably have to wait.  :luv:
