I was just wondering how many of you took your puppies to regular ringcraft training ... I take Grace once every 2 weeks, as that is our schedule, but should I be taking/practising with her more, or would that be enough??

With my other two I did basic obedience and then ringcraft, but i dont like any of the obedience trainers to take Grace, just wondering if the ringcraft would be enough ...

Hi Nat,
When Otis 8)  was a pup I took him weekly but only took him in the 'ring' once perhaps twice at the very most. The rest of the time was spent socialising. As well as ringcraft I did practise at home especially standing him,  but only for short periods of time. I have found this has stood him in good stead :D

Hi Nat,
I take Alfie to ringcraft but not on a regular basis, we go perhaps for 3 weeks and then maybe a couple of weeks off. It's just whatever fits into my schedule of dogs and teenage boys needing a taxi service to one or other sports training session. but we do practice in the house at getting him to stand properly and (when it's not soaking wet,) in the garden moving up and down. he is now coming up for 18months and he understands what I'm asking of him and does things fairly well. So just do what you can. I think it's the old chestnut of, Little and Often   Good luck.
Alfie, and Jay J. together over the Rainbow Bridge. Always in our hearts but dreadfully missed.

Thank Michel and Eljay.,

I think I will probably stick to our routine of once every two weeks, after reading your comments !!

I do practice the standing at home etc, and try and do the walking on 4 legs when we are out for a walk ...although I must admit at ringcraft yesterday she spent nearly 50% of the evening on 4 legs and walking nicely .... a breakthrough

There you go thats progress :D

I tend to find that puppies learn in stages:

a) They will stand like little angels, BUT won't walk.

B) They will walk like little angels, BUT won't standing

c)  Low and behold it all of a sudden comes together :P  :P  :P

......Unfortunately i neglected to mention that this is normally when they're about 5.........YEARS  :!:

There are bound to be classes in a big city like Nottingham - we used to attend an excellent one when we lived there in the 80s. Check with the Kennel Club - they should have a list of ringcraft societies or there is this site :http://www.bestofbreeds.dabsol.co.uk/clubc...gcraftclubs.htm

You can start ringcraft as soon as a pup has had their vaccinations but its never too late to start

Errr......how true is that ......  :P

Whenever I get a new pup, i just think only a few more years to go, and then we'll be walking nicely, no pulling, no blisters on the hands  :D

im going to sound sily now i thought they naturaly stood like that, mabe cuz bella does it on her own, not for ages like they do. do they have those classes in nottingham? and what age normaly do you start them?

Never to late to learn, as Jane says ... with my first girl, I hardly did any ringcraft, and even started the obedience late, around 9 months, but with Indis, she was in obedience classes as soon as she'd had all her vaccinations ...

I like to do ringcraft as soon as i can with mine., now at least, but you can start whenever you want too ... :)
