The vets now think that the next course of action for investigating the weight loss would be an endoscopy :( Luckily we have a vet hospital just along the road from us, so called one of the vets there and had a chat. Basically, there are two options - an endoscopy where they will be able to get a small biopsy, or open him up and get a few larger biopsies. I have to phone them this afternoon but just can't decide what to do for the best. Looking at him now, I can't justify opening him up as he doesn't appear unwell but on the other hand, if I opt for an endoscopy and it isn't conclusive, we may then have to open him up anyway and that would mean 2 anaesthetics
Thank god for insurance - its certainly going to be taking a bit of a battering over this one

Tough decision Gill. I can only say what i think I would do if this were Daisy or Jazz in the same position... and I think I'd probably go for the endescopy, and leave the opening up as a last resort (that may not have to happen). That's my instinct anyway, but I dont envy you having to make a decision like this.

I would do the same as Mike :) The endoscopy may be all that's needed.
Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you get to the bottom of the weight loss soon.
Tracey :)

Tough decision Gill, good luck with what ever you decide.

I'd go for the least invasive one first too - may not need to do another one hopefully.
Good luck

I would go along with Mike and Tracy, good luck Gill whatever you decide, and give that gorgeous boy of yours, a big (((hug)) from me. :)
-
Tough call Gill but I think I'd go for the least invasive option first too. At least, you're close to a vet hospital which makes these things a lot easier. Fingers crossed all goes well :)

Good luck with whatever you decide Gill. I agree with the others though I would go with the less invasive first ;)
-
Well it's reassuring to know you all thought the same as me ;) He's booked in for an endoscopy on 7th June. Hopefully it will provide us with some answers
-
I agree with the others too. Least invasive first.
Good luck

Vote for the endoscopy here too!
If you're going to crack an egg, save the hammer for the last resort! :P

I hope the endoscopy is all thats needed to find out whats wrong Gill, and fingers crossed its nothing too bad :) Its what I would have gone with for one of my babes aswel :)
Give Vegas a big hug from us all here :D

Good luck with the op on the 7th.
Like you we are quite close to a vet hospital (animal Health Trust in Newmarket or the Vet School attached to Cambridge University)

Just seen this Gill and will be keeping my fingers crossed that the cause for Vegas' weight loss is found through the endoscopy.
