We have recently returned from holiday, collected Monty on Sunday from the kennels and by the afternoon it was pretty clear that he wasn't a well doglet. The kennel informed me he had been no trouble and was his usual happy self. Sunday evening he refused his supper, the same thing happened Monday - which is unheard of. I called the kennels to get a bit of background info. as I wanted to take him to the vets for a check up on Tuesday. I was then informed that he hadn't eaten for a few days (they put it down to him being unsettled by his bath/getting him ready to be collected), had had a bit of an upset tum and at one point had eaten part his wooden kennel door!
To say I was furious is an understatement - none of this information had been passed on at the time of collection.
We have been backwards and forwards to our vet all week, Monty has been lethargic, had a high temp, refuses food and has been sick - he has had numerous blood tests all of which have come back clear, is on 2 courses of broad spectrum antibiotics and is still unwell. The vet admitted him for chest/gut x-rays today - these showed large clouded areas around his lungs and his heart was difficult to see. It was felt that he needed an immediate endoscopy so we were sent to the VRCC in Basildon, Essex. Monty has been admitted, the endoscopy shows fluid in his pleura cavity - hence not being able to see his organs clearly on the x-ray. He has now had a second GA, a chest drain has been inserted, thick pus has been drained and sent off for testing, the chest cavity has been thoroughly flushed and we are awaiting further news. They are beginning to wonder whether some wood has lodged in his lungs.
I just want the bouncy little spaniel I left at the kennels back
if you can spare any get well vibes they would be very much appreciated. Will update when I can.
